Overview

This document describes the ACCESS® Original Roll-Up Cover, a tonneau cover designed for truck beds, typically those 78 inches or longer. It is manufactured by Agri-Cover, Inc. and is intended to provide years of service and enjoyment when properly cared for.

Function Description:

The ACCESS® Original Roll-Up Cover is a truck bed cover that provides protection for cargo in the truck box. It features a roll-up design, allowing the user to easily open and close the cover to access the truck bed. The cover is secured to the truck bed side rails using clamps and a latching system. Tension adjusters are incorporated to maintain proper cover fabric tightness, which contributes to its longevity, reduces noise, and enhances appearance. The cover is designed to seal against the truck bed, offering a degree of protection against elements like moisture and dust, although it does not completely eliminate their entry. When rolled open, the cover can be secured with storage straps, allowing full access to the truck bed. When closed, a latching system secures the rear bar to the side rails, and hook and loop fasteners seal the cover edges along the full length of the side rails.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Warranty: Five (5) year Limited Warranty from the date of manufacture, covering defects in workmanship under normal use.
  • Components:
    • (8) Clamps
    • (2) Driver side rails (multi-piece for longer beds)
    • (2) Passenger side rails (multi-piece for longer beds)
    • (2) Rear seals
    • Alcohol pad
    • Seal gasket
    • Left and right tension adjusters with nuts and bolts
    • Pre-rolled cover assembly
  • Tools Needed for Installation:
    • (2) 1/2" Wrenches
    • Marking pen
    • Protective eyewear
    • Tape measure or ruler
    • Torque wrench with 1/2" socket
    • Scissors
    • Spring clamp (optional)
  • Clamp Torque: All clamps should be torqued to 20 ft-lbs, or as specified in special instructions.
  • Installation Environment: For best adhesion of seals, air and surface temperatures should be above 60° F.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The installation process involves assembling multi-piece side rails (if applicable), attaching them to the truck bed using clamps, applying seal gaskets to the bulkhead and rear of the side rails, and then mounting and adjusting the cover assembly.
    • Side rails are positioned flush with the top of the truck box and secured with clamps. Proper leveling of the side rails is crucial for optimal cover function.
    • The cover comes pre-rolled and is set on the tailgate with the front bar facing up, then rolled onto the front side rails.
    • Tension adjusters are installed on both the driver and passenger sides, allowing for fine-tuning of cover tightness.
  • Opening the Cover: To open, the tailgate is opened, the latching system's cord is pulled down, and the rear bar is rotated. The cover is then rolled toward the cab using both hands and secured with storage straps. Storage straps can be adjusted for snugness.
  • Closing the Cover: To close, storage straps are released, the cover is unrolled toward the tailgate, the rear bar is positioned against the strikes, and pressed down until the latching system secures it under the side rails. Finally, the cover edges are sealed with the hook and loop system along the full length of both sides.
  • Tension Adjustment: The cover's tension can be adjusted by turning the tension adjusters. Turning clockwise loosens the cover (moves the front bar back), and turning counter-clockwise tightens it (moves the front bar forward). Adjusters should be adjusted equally. A tight cover increases longevity, decreases noise, and enhances appearance.
  • Compatibility: Installation is possible with under-the-rail drop-in bed liners with minimal trimming. Over-the-rail drop-in bed liners require considerable trimming.
  • Electric Tailgates: For trucks with electric tailgates, the cover and tailgate should remain closed for at least 24 hours after installation to allow the vinyl flap to conform.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Checks:
    • Periodically check and/or retighten clamps.
    • Periodically check the latching system to ensure latches fully engage side rails.
    • Periodically inspect the cover assembly and all parts for loose bolts or damaged components.
    • Periodically check front bar tensioning bolts.
  • Cleaning: Use mild liquid soap and water for cleaning. Avoid petroleum or citrus-based products, as they can damage the cover vinyl.
  • Treatment: Periodically treat the cover with COVER CARE® Cleaner and UV protectant.
  • General Care:
    • Keep the cover closed when not in use.
    • Always seal cover edges with the hook and loop system.
    • Keep the cover tight (should sound drum-like when tapped).
    • Ensure the cover is properly latched and sealed.
    • Close the cover while traveling and before automatic drive-through car washes.
    • Avoid storing the cover in its open position for long periods.
    • Ensure cargo does not rub against the cover, whether open or closed.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as a loose or tight cover, gaps between the rear bar and tailgate, tailgate hitting the rear bar, narrow or wide cover, lopsided cover, and latching system engagement problems.
  • Customer Support: For assistance with inspection, servicing, or ordering replacement parts, customers can contact Agri-Cover, Inc. Customer Service at 866-630-8726 or visit accesscoverparts.com. Original equipment replacement parts are recommended.
