Overview

The Aiphone Apartment House Intercom System is a comprehensive communication solution designed for multi-unit dwellings. It offers a range of models for both apartment stations and various entrance stations, catering to different apartment sizes and installation requirements.

Function Description

The core function of the system is to facilitate communication between an entrance station and individual apartment stations, and to enable door release from the apartment station.

Apartment Station (VC-K): The VC-K serves as the indoor unit for each apartment. It features a handset for private conversation, a hook knob, and a door release button. When a visitor presses the call button at the entrance station, an electronic buzzer sounds at the apartment station(s). The resident picks up the handset to reply and can then activate the door release by pressing and holding the door release button. The system supports a common talk system, meaning conversations with the entrance station can be heard if another apartment station picks up its handset. Up to two VC-K stations can be installed per apartment.

Entrance Stations (VC-0M, VC-1M, VC-2M, VC-4M, VC-6M, VC-8M, VC-10M): These models are designed for flush-mounting and come with a back box. They vary in the number of call buttons, from 0-call (VC-0M) to 10-call (VC-10M), allowing selection based on the number of apartments in the building. Each call button is associated with a directory card for resident identification, which can be back-illuminated for visibility.

One-Paneled Entrance Stations (VC-26MY, VC-42MY, VC-26MT, VC-58MT): These models are designed for larger apartment buildings and feature a higher number of call buttons on a single panel. The VC-26MY and VC-42MY are horizontal type stations with 26 and 42 calls respectively, while the VC-26MT and VC-58MT are vertical type stations with 26 and 58 calls respectively. These stations also include directory card back illumination.

Add-On Call Button Panels (VCH-8, VCH-16): For systems requiring additional call buttons beyond what the main entrance station offers, VCH-8 (8-call) and VCH-16 (16-call) add-on panels are available. These panels can be combined with VC-nM and VCH units to accommodate a greater number of apartments.

Door Release (EL-9S): The EL-9S is an electric door release unit that can be integrated with the system, allowing residents to remotely unlock the building's entrance.

Relay Adaptors (RY-PA): The RY-PA serves as a door release relay adaptor for AC-operated door releases and can also be used for additional audio calls (chime or buzzer) at the room station.

Power Supplies (PS-12S, PS-12A, PS-12C): These units provide the necessary DC 12V power for the intercom system. The PS-12S and PS-12A are general power supply adaptors, while the PS-12C is UL/CSA LISTED for North America.

Usage Features

System Scalability:

  • The system supports a maximum of two VC-K stations per apartment.
  • Seven entrance station models are available, with 8- or 16-call add-on panels to accommodate small to larger apartments.
  • Multiple back boxes for VC-nM and VCH units can be united before flush-mounting to a wall, allowing for flexible installation of larger entrance stations.

Installation Flexibility:

  • Entrance stations are available in both vertical and horizontal types (VC-nMY, VC-nMT series).
  • VC-K apartment stations are wall-mount only and can be attached to a single-gang box or directly to the wall.
  • VC-nM entrance stations require a cut-out hole in the wall for flush-mounting.
  • Wiring can be passed through knock-out holes in the back boxes for clean installation.

Directory Card Back Illumination:

  • Directory cards on entrance stations are back-illuminated, improving visibility for visitors, especially in low-light conditions.

Door Release Options:

  • The system supports both AC-operated and DC-operated door releases.
  • For AC-operated door releases, an RY-PA relay adaptor is used in conjunction with a PS-12S or PS-12C power supply.
  • DC-operated door releases can be connected directly to the L+ and L- terminals.

Call Extension:

  • For call extension, a locally available chime or buzzer (rated less than DC 24V, 2.5A) can be used with an RY-PA relay adaptor. The chime or buzzer must be powered separately from the system.

Compatibility:

  • The VC-K/VC-M models are not compatible with existing VA-K/VAM-/VAM-A models.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • VC-K stations should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral household cleanser. Thinner or benzine should not be used.
  • Avoid splashing water on the entrance station with a hose.

Replaceable Call Button Unit:

  • Individual call button units on entrance stations can be replaced if damaged or faulty. This involves desoldering the bus wire, unscrewing the terminal, detaching the switch unit, and pushing the claw to remove the button. Care must be taken not to lose the spring and button during replacement.

Warranty:

  • Aiphone provides a one-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The warranty covers free repair or replacement and is subject to Aiphone's final decision on defect and warranty eligibility. It does not cover misuse, neglect, accident, use in violation of instructions, or repairs/alterations outside the factory. Batteries and on-site service calls are also excluded. Bench repairs must be performed at designated shops.
