Overview

This document serves as the user's manual for AIRREX portable air conditioners, covering models HSC-12L, HSC(O)-14, HSC(O)-18, and HSC(O)-24A. The manual provides comprehensive information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The AIRREX air conditioner is designed to provide cooling, dehumidification, and fan-only operation for indoor spaces. It is a portable unit, featuring casters for easy mobility. The device operates by drawing in ambient air, cooling it through an evaporator, and expelling the cooled air through flexible ducts or louvers. Hot air generated during the cooling process is exhausted through a separate condenser outlet. The unit also collects condensed water in a dedicated tank during operation.

Key functional components include:

  • Flexible Duct Outlet (Cold Air): Directs cooled air to specific areas.
  • Louver Outlet (Cold Air): Provides general cooling.
  • Digital Controller: The main interface for setting operating parameters.
  • Evaporator Filter: Filters incoming air before cooling.
  • Condensed Water Tank: Collects moisture removed from the air.
  • Casters: Allow for easy movement of the unit (front casters are lockable).
  • Condenser Outlet (Hot Air): Expels hot air generated during the cooling cycle.
  • Condenser Filter: Filters air before it passes over the condenser.
  • Electric Panel: Accessible by authorized service personnel only.
  • Power Plug: Connects the unit to the electrical supply.
  • Top Fan/Wiregrille: For air intake/exhaust.
  • Water Level Indicator: Checks the level of condensate in the tank.
  • Fire Alarm Connection Port: Allows integration with a fire alarm system to automatically shut off the unit upon signal.
  • Error Signal Output: Provides a dry contact signal when an error occurs, for connection to external warning devices.

The unit offers three operating modes:

  • Cooling Mode: Provides active cooling.
  • Dehumidifier Mode: Removes moisture from the air.
  • Fan Mode: Circulates air without cooling or dehumidifying.

An "Off Timer" function allows users to set a specific operating duration (0-24 hours) after which the unit will automatically turn off. The unit also features a lock/unlock function for the control panel and the ability to switch between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) temperature displays.

Usage Features

  • Control Panel: The digital controller allows users to power on/off, adjust temperature settings (using ∨∧ buttons), select operating modes (cooling, dehumidifier, fan), and control fan speed (low/high).
  • Off Timer: Set the unit to operate for a specified duration (30 minutes to 24 hours). The display shows ".5" for 30 minutes and "1" for one hour. To cancel, press and hold the "Off Timer" button for one second.
  • Temperature Display: The display shows either room temperature or spot temperature, as well as the set temperature and off-timer duration. "LO" indicates temperatures under 32°F, and "HI" indicates over 99°F.
  • Lock/Unlock Function: To prevent unintended changes, the control panel can be locked. This is activated by pressing the 'V' button for 5 seconds when the unit is off, then pressing 'A' to toggle between 'UNLOCK' and 'LOCK'. A dot appears below the number on the screen when locked.
  • Temperature Unit Change: To switch between °F and °C, press the V and A buttons simultaneously for three seconds when the unit is stopped.
  • Error and Warning Indicators: The control panel displays error codes (e.g., E1 for high pressure, E2 for low pressure, E3 for sensor problems, E5 for BLDC motor issues, AF for evaporator freezing, rP for reverse phase) and warning indicators (e.g., "Check" for full water tank or misaligned drain tank). These signals help diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
  • Fire Alarm Integration: The unit can be connected to a fire alarm system. Upon receiving a fire alarm signal, the air conditioner will automatically shut off and remain off until manually reset.
  • External Error Signal: The unit provides a dry contact error signal output (ER1 and ER2) that can be connected to external warning devices like alarm speakers or light indicators, signaling a malfunction.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the AIRREX air conditioner.

  • Cleaning Air Filters:
    • For HSC-12L: Open the front grille, pull out the EVA filters, and slide up/pull out the COND filters. Clean them with water or compressed air.
    • For HSC(O)-14, HSC(O)-18, HSC(O)-24A: Slide up/pull out the filters. Clean them with water or compressed air.
  • Cleaning Evaporator and Condenser Units: Use a vacuum cleaner or compressed air to clean these units.
  • Drying the Unit: After cleaning, operate the unit in 'Fan Mode' for 3 to 4 hours to completely dry the inside.
  • Storage: Before storing, turn off the unit at the control panel, remove the plug from the socket, and coil the cable neatly. Keep the machine suitably covered to prevent damage from dampness, humidity, and dust.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the unit not working (power plug, power button, fuse, circuit breaker), or poor cooling (ambient temperature, blocked filters, dust in heat exchanger, obstacles against inlet, water tank issues).

Safety Instructions

The manual emphasizes critical safety instructions, categorized as "WARNING" (must NOT do) and "CAUTION" (must do).

  • WARNINGS:
    • Do NOT use a damaged power cable.
    • Do NOT use an extension cable.
    • Do NOT kink or sharply bend the power cable or place weight on it.
    • Do NOT place anything on top of the machine.
    • Do NOT use the unit on unstable or inclined surfaces.
    • ALWAYS use a circuit breaker of appropriate capacity.
    • ALWAYS disconnect the unit before cleaning.
    • ALWAYS turn off the control panel first, then the circuit breaker.
  • CAUTIONS:
    • ALWAYS use on a solid, flat floor.
    • ALWAYS keep the unit in a dry, cool place when storing.
    • ALWAYS disconnect from power if not being used for some time or during lightning.
    • Do NOT spray water or use solvents (benzene, thinner, alcohol) for cleaning.
    • Designed for indoor usage only.
    • Ensure proper electricity supply and connect the supply cord at least to standard.
    • Allow at least 20" (50cm) air space around the unit.
    • LOCK the casters to prevent rolling when in position.
    • Dispose of electrical and electronic products separately from household waste, following local authority guidance.

The manual also includes a warranty form, which should be completed and kept in a safe place. The manufacturer, HEPHZIBAH CO., LTD., and the distributor, Airrex USA, are listed with contact information. The company maintains a policy of continual product improvement, so contents and specifications are subject to change without notice.
