Overview

This document describes the AirSense™ Home Ventilation System, an essential, essential+, and balanced+ home ventilation system designed to improve indoor air quality and manage temperature and humidity. The system is controlled via a touchscreen keypad, which provides real-time information and allows users to adjust various settings.

Function Description:

The AirSense™ system is a home ventilation solution that aims to provide balanced and controlled airflow throughout the house. It works by drawing air from the roof space (or directly from outside in summer with the Summer Kit) and distributing it into the living areas. The system is designed to manage condensation, moisture, temperature, and air quality. It can operate in heating, cooling, and ventilation modes, adjusting fan speeds and airflow direction based on internal and external conditions and user preferences. The system also includes features for energy recovery, odor clearing, and air transfer between rooms (with an accessory kit).

Important Technical Specifications:

While specific technical specifications like power consumption or airflow rates are not explicitly detailed, the manual highlights several functional aspects:

  • Ventilation Levels: Adjustable from 1 to 6, with 1 being less air and 6 being more air. These levels are crucial for managing condensation and air exchange.
  • Temperature Control: Users can set an "Ideal Temperature" for the house, and the system will attempt to achieve this using available heating or cooling from the roof space.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: The system connects to Wi-Fi, enabling software updates and potentially remote control via a mobile app (indicated by the "Product ID" for registration).
  • Filter Life: Filters are recommended to be changed every two years.
  • Monitoring: The system monitors air quality (CO2, VOC, Humidity), filter life, air changes, and kWh energy savings.

Usage Features:

The AirSense™ controller is designed for intuitive use, with a clear display and accessible buttons:

  • On/Off Button: Turns the system on or off with a single press.
  • Locking Icon: Indicates when the keypad locking function is engaged. To lock/unlock, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
  • Heating Icon: Displays when the system is actively heating the house to the set temperature. Arrows and house temperature numbers turn red.
  • Cooling Icon: Displays when the system is actively cooling the house to the ideal temperature. Arrows and house temperature numbers turn blue.
  • Ventilation Icon: Shows when the roof space temperature is insufficient for heating, and the system reduces fan speeds to low levels for ventilation, ensuring air movement to control condensation. All numbers and arrows turn green in this state.
  • Menu Button: Provides access to sub-menus for advanced settings and functionality.
  • Filter Replacement Icon: Alerts the user when the filter needs to be changed.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity Icon: Shows if the system is connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Max Fan Button: Overrides the system to run the fan at 100% speed for one hour. This is useful for clearing condensation, purging hot air in summer evenings (heat dump), and clearing odors.
  • Air Transfer Kit Icon: Indicates when the accessory Air Transfer Kit is active, moving air between rooms.
  • Summer Kit Icon: (Standard on Essential+) Shows when the system is bringing cool air directly from outside, bypassing the roof, during summer.
  • Heat Share / (HS) Icon: Displays when the heat exchanger system is active with Balanced+.
  • Software Update Icon: Appears when new software updates are available. Pressing the yellow note initiates the download.
  • System Monitoring: The display shows real-time data on kWh saved, filter status, air changes, CO2, VOC, and humidity levels.
  • Roof Temperature: Displays the temperature in the roof space, indicating heating, cooling, or ventilation availability.
  • Heat Exchange Symbol: Active when the system is recovering energy from the house.
  • House Arrows: Indicate airflow direction (into, out of, or around the house) and color-code for warm (red), cool (blue), or low-level ventilation (green).
  • Room Temperature: Shows the current indoor temperature.
  • Fan Speed Icon: Displays the current fan speed.
  • Up and Down Arrow Buttons: Used to adjust the "Ideal Temperature."
  • Ideal Temperature: The user-desired temperature for the house.
  • Navigation Buttons (Previous/Next): Used to navigate horizontally through sub-menus.
  • Home Screen Icon: Returns to the main screen from any menu.
  • Max Fan: Advanced options for Max Fan mode.
  • Quick Options: Accesses Season Detection, Air Transfer Kit on/off, and Summer Kit on/off.
  • Night Mode: Holds the set temperature at 18 degrees for 4 hours, cooling the house if the roof cavity is cooler than the interior. Returns to original settings after 4 hours.
  • Ventilation Level: Adjusts the ventilation setting (1-6) to clear condensation, balancing cold air intake. Recommended levels vary by season (1-3 for spring/summer/autumn, 3-6 for winter).
  • Clock Settings: Allows adjustment of the system clock.
  • Display Settings: Adjusts screen brightness and contrast.
  • Advanced: Accesses advanced user functions, including setting kWh cost, Wi-Fi setup, new filter requests, and software updates.
  • About your HRV: Displays information about the HRV system model.

Wi-Fi Setup:

The system supports Wi-Fi connectivity via two methods:

  • WPS Connect: For routers with a WPS feature, users press the "WPS Connect" button on the touchscreen and then the WPS button on their router.
  • Manual Connect: For routers without WPS, users select "Manual Connect," choose their SSID from a list of available networks, and enter the password using an on-screen keyboard. The system displays Wi-Fi and cloud connection status.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Replacement: The system provides an icon to indicate when the filter needs changing, recommending replacement every two years with a genuine HRV filter to maintain performance.
  • Software Updates: The system notifies users when new software updates are available, ensuring the system remains up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.
  • Customer Support: The manual provides contact information (phone number and website) for customer service and additional product information.
  • Troubleshooting: Offers guidance on common issues like black rings around outlet vents (due to static charge attracting dust) and persistent condensation on windows (explaining that while the system significantly reduces it, zero condensation cannot be guaranteed).
