This document outlines the operations and maintenance for EcoStream and EcoStream+ UV disinfection systems, covering models ECS60R, ECS100R, ECS150R, ECS250R, and ECS310R. These systems are designed to treat water at specified flow rates, utilizing ultraviolet light to destroy bacteria, mold, virus, algae, and fungi without the use of chemicals. The EcoStream units are comprised of two main components: the ultraviolet reactor chamber and the main controller.
Function Description
The EcoStream UV disinfection system provides a simple, inexpensive way of destroying bacteria, mold, viruses, algae, and fungi without the use of heat or chemicals. It achieves this by exposing water to ultraviolet light, which damages the DNA of microorganisms, preventing them from reproducing. The dosage of ultraviolet light, expressed in µW-sec/cm² or micro watt second per centimeter squared, is critical for effective disinfection. The system is designed to maintain a specific energy dose to properly destroy microorganisms.
The reactor chamber, manufactured from stainless steel 316L, houses the ultraviolet lamp and quartz sleeve. The EcoStream UV systems use a single UV lamp, while the EcoStream+ models (ECS60R+, ECS100R+, ECS150R+, ECS250R+, ECS310R+) utilize special high intensity, high output, and amalgam germicidal type lamps. The chamber is designed for mounting either horizontally or vertically.
The control panel, made of aluminum or GI depending on the model, connects to the chamber via 2 meters of cable, allowing for flexible mounting. All EcoStream control boxes feature a soft start on/off switch. When the main power is turned on, the lamp illuminates directly. The lamp can be turned off (and on) by holding the "Power" button for 2 seconds.

Usage Features
- Basic Operation (EcoStream):
- The default display shows "Lamp Life Remaining" in hours.
- Pressing the "Function" key once displays the total operating days.
- Holding the "Power" button for 2 seconds turns the lamp on/off, displaying "P-OFF" when off.
- In case of "Lamp Life Over," the display shows "LO" with an intermittent buzzer.
- In case of "Lamp Failure," the display shows "LF" with a continuous buzzer.
- Basic Operation (EcoStream+):
- The default display shows UV Intensity in percentage ("% UV Output").
- Pressing the "Function" key once displays "Lamp Life Remaining" in hours.
- Pressing the "Function" key again (while in "Lamp Life Remaining" screen) displays total operating days.
- Low UV warning ("LI") is displayed when UV intensity drops below 50%, alternating with the actual UV level, accompanied by an intermittent audible tone.
- UV Intensity Levels:
- 65 to 99%: Normal operating range.
- 56 to 64%: Safe level, but system should be examined.
- 50 to 55%: Nearing unsafe UV intensity, system should be closely examined.
- < 49%: Unsafe level, water should not be consumed, system/water supply must be examined.
- Safety Instructions:
- Always disconnect power before maintenance.
- Do not operate the sterilizer if the cord is damaged or if it is dropped or damaged in any manner.
- Do not use the UV disinfection system for any other purpose than disinfection of water.
- Do not install the UV disinfection system where it will be exposed to weather or temperatures below freezing.
- Avoid looking directly at the burning UV lamp without protective eyewear.
- Ensure proper earthing and surge suppression.
- Slowly fill the reactor chamber to prevent damage to UV lamps or quartz sleeves.
Maintenance Features
- Cleaning:
- The quartz sleeve should be cleaned periodically (monthly) to remove mineral coating, which reduces UV light reaching the water.
- UV intensity sensor should also be cleaned periodically.
- Use 10% Citric Acid or household cleaners like vinegar for cleaning.
- Quartz Sleeve Replacement/Cleaning:
- Shut off upstream water supply and depressurize the system.
- Unscrew and remove the QG sealing nut and O-ring.
- Carefully slide the quartz sleeve out of the chamber, ensuring it is not at an angle to prevent breakage.
- Replace or clean the sleeve with a new one or appropriate cleaning solution.
- Reinstall the quartz sleeve, ensuring it is locked into place and the O-ring is properly seated.
- Tighten the QG socket compression nuts.
- UV Intensity Sensor Cleaning (EcoStream+ models):
- Disconnect the UV sensor from the EcoStream+ controller.
- Unscrew the stainless portion of the sensor and rotate counter-clockwise until the sensor is free.
- Clean the quartz window with a commercial scale remover or vinegar and a lint-free cotton swab.
- Reinstall the sensor, ensuring a water-tight seal without overtightening.
- Lamp Replacement:
- Disconnect main power.
- Gently pull out the lamp harness and extract the lamp. Avoid touching the ceramic ends of the lamp.
- Install a new lamp, ensuring it is properly seated in the lamp centering spring.
- Connect the earthing wire to the earthing stud on the UV reactor.
- Reset the UV Intensity Sensor calibration (if applicable) by pressing the "Function" key for 7 seconds after the system has run for at least 1 hour.
- Reset the Lamp Life Counter by pressing "Power" and "Function" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.
- UV Intensity Sensor Calibration Resetting (EcoStream+ models):
- After new installation or lamp replacement, reset the sensor calibration settings.
- Ensure the system and lamp are powered up and water is flowing.
- Let the system run for at least 1 hour to reach a steady state.
- Press the "Function" key for 7 seconds to reset the UV Intensity Sensor to 100%. The controller will beep once and display 100%.
