Overview

The Alpha Sports Axis Pro Stringing Machine is a sophisticated device designed for stringing racquets, offering a range of features for precision, durability, and ease of use. This machine is built to provide a stable and adjustable platform for stringing, catering to various racquet types and stringing preferences.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Axis Pro is to accurately tension and weave strings into a racquet frame. It achieves this through a combination of a rotating racket platform, precise string clamping mechanisms, and a tensioning head that applies consistent force. The machine allows for both one-piece and two-piece stringing methods, accommodating different stringing patterns and string lengths. The 360° racket rotation feature ensures that all parts of the racquet frame are easily accessible during the stringing process, enhancing efficiency and accuracy. The tensioning system is designed for fine-tuning, allowing users to set precise string tensions according to their requirements.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Racket Rotation: 360° for comprehensive access to the racquet frame.
  • Clamps: Diamond-dusted clamps provide a secure grip on the string, minimizing slippage and damage.
  • Locking Levers: Spring-action locking levers ensure quick and secure clamping.
  • Mounting Arms: 6-Point "Wide-Stretch" mounting arms securely hold the racquet frame, distributing pressure evenly to prevent frame distortion.
  • Height Adjustment: The machine features height adjustment, allowing users to set the working height to their preference for ergonomic stringing.
  • Stand: A sturdy machine stand provides stability during operation.
  • Leveling: Adjustable level pads ensure the machine remains stable on uneven surfaces.
  • Tool Tray: A metal tool tray is integrated for convenient storage of stringing tools.
  • Tension Scale: The tension scale features hash marks in three-pound increments for general tension setting, complemented by a knob collar with one-pound increments for fine-tuning.
  • Warranty: The Axis Pro comes with a 5-year limited warranty, while the string clamps have a 2-year limited warranty, covering parts deemed defective by the manufacturer.

Usage Features:

  • Mounting the Frame: The machine features adjustable mounting arm posts and angled frame supports to accommodate various racquet lengths and shapes. The head/throat frame supports can be flipped to an upward position for different racquet configurations. Fine adjustment knobs allow for a snug fit against the frame, with a caution against over-tightening to prevent premature stress on the frame.
  • String Clamping: To clamp a string, the toggle on the string gripper is squeezed to close, and pulled to open for release. The tension on the string clamp is adjustable via a dial, which should be set according to the string gauge (tightened for thin gauges like 16L, 17, 18; loosened for thick gauges like 15, 15L, 16).
  • Tension Setting: Tension is set in two stages: first, by moving a marker to the nearest three-pound hash mark on the main scale, and then by fine-tuning with one-pound increments on the knob's collar. For example, to set 62 lbs, the marker is aligned with 60 lbs on the scale, and then the collar is turned two one-pound increments.
  • Stringing Process: The manual provides guidance on determining main string starting points (top or throat) based on the number of holes in the open throat area. It also explains the difference between one-piece and two-piece stringing methods. The process involves clamping the main strings, loading them into the linear gripper, pulling at an angle to create resistance, and rotating the tension head until the latch "pops" and activates the brake. After clamping the string, the tension head is released by pushing the locking lever back into the latched position. For crosses, users can start with a knot (for two-piece stringing) or simply weave the string (for one-piece). It emphasizes sliding crosses up and down the mains to disburse friction and prevent "notching."
  • Calibration: The machine can be calibrated by setting the tension head to 50 lbs, turning the mounting table so posts are perpendicular to the tension head, and locking it. A tension calibrator is used, clamped at one end, with the string loaded on the other. The tension adjustment screw, located in front of the black housing block, is turned counter-clockwise to tighten or clockwise to loosen the string. It's crucial to release tension on the calibrator before making adjustments.
  • Clamp Base Adjustment: The tension of the swivel base can be adjusted by removing a black cap on the backside of the yellow base, aligning the outer and inner ports, and using a 3mm allen key to turn an internal adjustment screw clockwise to increase tension. The ideal locking position for the lever is down the center of the swivel base.

Maintenance Features:

  • String Clamp Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the string clamps is essential. Rubbing alcohol should be used to clean the inside of the jaws to remove oil and grit buildup.
  • Rail Lubrication: Silicon spray should be used to lubricate the rails on which the swivel bases run, ensuring smooth sliding.
  • Storage: When not in use, the machine should always be covered and stored in a dry area to protect it from environmental elements.
  • Tension Release: When the machine is not in use, it is recommended to release the tension on the spring by setting the tension back down to 9 lbs to prolong the life of the spring.
