Overview

The Alpine 5953 is a state-of-the-art CD Changer Control System designed for in-vehicle installation. It functions as a controller for the Alpine 5952 CD Shuttle and can be integrated with an optional Alpine 1390 FMX™/FM/AM tuner to build a comprehensive audio system.

Function Description

The 5953 controller provides a centralized interface for managing CD playback and, when connected to the optional 1390 tuner, radio functions. Its core purpose is to control the CD Shuttle, allowing users to select discs, tracks, and various playback modes. The unit features an illuminated computer-like control keyboard and an easy-to-read LCD display for user interaction.

CD Operation:

  • Normal Play: Initiates playback of a CD, starting from the first track of the first disc.
  • Pause: Temporarily stops CD playback.
  • Music Sensor (Skip): Allows quick navigation to the beginning of the next or previous track. Users can repeatedly press the MS/CD UP or DN buttons to select tracks further ahead or behind.
  • Direct Disc Access: Enables selection of a desired disc from up to 6 discs in the CD Magazine using dedicated preset buttons.
  • Fast Forward/Fast Reverse: Provides rapid movement through a musical track in both play and pause modes. Holding the MS/CD UP or DN button for more than one second activates this feature.
  • Repeat (One/All): Continuously repeats a single track or an entire disc.
  • Scan: Plays the first 10 seconds of each track in succession, useful for searching for specific selections.
  • M.I.X. (Random Play): Plays musical tracks on a disc in a random sequence. After all tracks on the current disc have been played, it proceeds to play tracks from the next disc in a random sequence.
  • P.T.M. (Preferred Track Memory) Play: Allows users to program and play back up to 60 favorite tracks per CD Magazine, with a total memory capacity of 720 tracks across 12 CD Magazines. This feature requires the 5953 to be interconnected with the Alpine 5952 CD changer.
  • Storing Tracks: Tracks can be preset by selecting the desired track and pressing the P.T.M. button. The unit displays "P-01" to "P-60" to indicate the preset number.
  • Clearing Preset Tracks: Presets on a CD Magazine can be cleared by holding the CLR button for more than 2 seconds. All presets on all CD magazines can be cleared by ejecting and removing the CD Magazine from the changer and holding the All CLR button for more than 2 seconds.

Radio Operation (with optional 1390 Tuner):

  • FM Stereo/Monaural Switching (MONO Button): Allows selection between stereo and monaural modes. In weak FM stereo reception areas, switching to monaural reception can decrease noise.
  • Automatic Seek Tuning: Automatically tunes to the next stronger or weaker frequency. The tuner can seek in either local or distance mode, with the DX/SCAN button controlling sensitivity.
  • Manual Tuning: Allows precise tuning to desired frequencies.
  • Manual Memory Preset: Stations can be manually programmed into preset memory locations by tuning to the desired station and holding a Preset button for more than two seconds.
  • Auto Memory Presets: Automatically seeks and memorizes the six strongest stations in each band (FM1, FM2, AM) into preset memory.
  • Preset Tuning: After stations are memorized, users can quickly access them using the Preset buttons.
  • D.A.P. (Direct Access Preset): Enables storage of AM and FM presets on the same band, eliminating the need to switch bands. Up to 6 AM and FM stations can be mixed in the D.A.P. Band.

General Controls:

  • Power On/Off: Turns the unit on or off.
  • Volume/Treble/Bass/Fader/Balance Controls: Adjusts audio levels for volume, treble, bass, fader (front/rear balance), and balance (left/right).
  • Loudness Control: Boosts low and high frequencies at low volume levels to compensate for the ear's reduced sensitivity.
  • Mute Button: Instantly lowers the volume level by 20dB.
  • Clock Setting: Displays and allows adjustment of the time.
