Do you have a question about the Alpine TDA-7561R and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Alpine TDA-7561R is an FM/MW/LW/RDS Cassette Receiver designed for in-car audio systems. It offers a range of features for radio reception, cassette playback, and control of an optional CD Shuttle.

Function Description:

The TDA-7561R serves as a central audio unit in a vehicle, providing access to various audio sources. Its primary functions include:

  • Radio Operation: Manual and automatic seek tuning across FM1, FM2, FM3, MW, and LW bands. It supports manual storing of up to 30 preset stations (6 per band) and automatic memory of strong stations. A "Travel Search" function automatically searches for up to 12 receivable stations in the current district.
  • RDS Operation: The unit supports the Radio Data System (RDS), allowing reception of digital data such as Programme Identification (PI), Programme Service Name (PS), List of Alternative Frequencies (AF), Traffic Programme (TP), Traffic Announcement (TA), Programme Type (PTY), and Enhanced Other Networks (EON). Users can set RDS reception modes, recall preset RDS stations, and receive regional (local) RDS stations. It also features PTY tuning to search for specific program types and a "Priority PTY" mode that prioritizes and interrupts current listening for broadcasts of a preset program type (e.g., news). An "Emergency Alarm" function can be turned on or off to receive PTY31 (Emergency Broadcast) signals.
  • Cassette Player Operation: Supports normal tape playback with automatic tape direction reversal at the end of a side. It includes Dolby B Noise Reduction (NR) for improved sound quality. Other features include repeat play, fast forward and rewind, "Scanning Programmes" (plays the first 10 seconds of each program), "Blank Skip" (skips blank sections of 15 seconds or longer), and "Programme Sensor" (P.S.) for navigating between songs.
  • CD Shuttle Control (Optional): When an optional Alpine CD Shuttle is connected via the Ai-NET connector, the TDA-7561R acts as the control unit. It can control multiple Alpine Shuttles through Multi-Changer Switching devices (KCA-400C). Features include displaying disc and track numbers, music sensor skip for navigating tracks, fast forward and backward within a track, repeat play (single track or entire disc), M.I.X. (random play) for a single disc or all loaded discs, disc scan (plays the first 10 seconds of each disc), and disc titling (up to 8 characters per disc).
  • Basic Operation and Audio Control: Power on/off, subwoofer on/off (with adjustable output level), adjustment of source signal levels (FM HI/LO), and comprehensive audio adjustments including volume, bass, treble, balance (left/right), and fader (front/rear). It also includes a "Loudness" function for low- and high-frequency emphasis at low listening levels, a "Sound Guide" function for audible button feedback, and a "Mute" mode for cellular phone interruptions. The unit's lighting color can be changed between green and amber.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fuse Replacement: Requires fuses of the same amperage as shown on the fuse holder. Repeated fuse blowing indicates a shorted circuit or voltage regulator issue.
  • Tape Head Cleaning: Periodic cleaning (approximately every 20 hours of use) with a wet-type head-cleaning cassette tape is recommended for optimal performance.
  • Temperature Range: Ensure the vehicle's interior temperature is between +60°C (+140°F) and -10°C (+14°F) before operating the unit.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive guide for common issues like no function/display, noisy broadcast, dull tape playback, CD Shuttle malfunction, and CD playback issues, with suggested solutions.
  • Professional Servicing: Users are advised not to attempt self-repair and to return the unit to an Alpine dealer or service station for problems.
  • Detachable Front Panel Care: Do not expose to rain or water, drop, or apply shock to the front panel.
  • CD Shuttle Temperature: If the optional CD Shuttle is not functioning due to extreme temperatures (+50°C/+120°F), allow the vehicle's interior to cool.
  • Moisture Condensation: If CD playback sound is wavering due to moisture condensation, allow approximately 1 hour for it to evaporate.
  • Disc Care: Use clean, unscratched discs. Eject and discard damaged CDs to prevent mechanism damage.
  • Single CD Adaptor: For 8 cm discs, use a single CD adaptor (recommended by Alpine).
