Overview

This document is the user manual for an Amana Electric Range. It provides instructions for safe operation, feature descriptions, usage guidelines for the cooktop and oven, maintenance tips, troubleshooting, and warranty information.

Function Description

The Amana Electric Range is a cooking appliance designed for household use, featuring both a cooktop for surface cooking and an oven for baking, roasting, and broiling. It incorporates electronic controls for precise temperature and time management, and some models include a self-cleaning cycle for convenience.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Supply: The range requires a grounded electrical outlet.
  • Oven Temperature Range: Adjustable between 170°F (75°C) and 525°F (275°C) in 5° increments for baking and roasting. Broiling temperatures are adjustable between 300°F (150°C) and 525°F (275°C) in 5° increments.
  • Oven Temperature Calibration: Adjustable between 30°F (17°C) and -30°F (-17°C) in 10°F (5° or 6°C) amounts.
  • Timer: Can be set up to 12 hours and 59 minutes.
  • Clock: Uses a 12-hour cycle.
  • Oven Light: Standard 40-watt appliance bulb.
  • Self-Cleaning Cycle (on some models):
    • Adjustable Clean Time (Style 1): Between 2 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours 30 minutes in 15-minute increments. Suggested times are 2 hours 30 minutes for light soil and 4 hours 30 minutes for heavy soil. The last 30 minutes are for cool down.
    • Adjustable Self-Clean (HI - LO) (Style 2): HI setting is 4 hours 30 minutes, LO setting is 3 hours 30 minutes. Suggested times are 3 hours 30 minutes for light soil and 4 hours 30 minutes for heavy soil. The last 30 minutes are for cool down.
  • Cooktop Elements: Available in ceramic glass or coil element models. Some ceramic glass models feature a Dual Cooking Zone for flexibility with cookware sizes.
  • Cookware Size: Cookware should be about the same size as the surface cooking area and should not extend more than 1/2" (1.3 cm) outside the area to prevent excess heat and discoloration of burner bowls.
  • Oven Racks: Multiple positions (1-5) for various cooking tasks, including 2-rack baking (positions 2 and 4).

Usage Features

  • Electronic Oven Controls:
    • Keypads: BAKE, BROIL, WARM, COOK TIME, START TIME, TIMER SET/OFF, CLOCK, OVEN LIGHT, LOCK HOLD 3 SEC (or START on some models), OFF/CANCEL, TEMP/TIME "+" and "-".
    • Tones: Audible signals for valid pad press, preheat completion, function entry, end-of-cycle, invalid pad press, and end of cycle.
    • Fahrenheit and Celsius: Oven temperature can be switched between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
    • Options Mode: Allows selection of end-of-cycle tones ("b1" or "b"), 12-hour shutoff ("12 Hr" or "- Hr" to disable), and oven light behavior with door open ("LOn" or "LOFF").
  • Sabbath Mode (on some models): Sets the oven to remain on in a Bake setting until turned off, disabling tones, display temperature, and Kitchen Timer Mode. Oven light behavior can be predetermined. Temperature can be adjusted in 25°F (14°C) increments during Sabbath Mode.
  • Timed Cooking (on some models): Allows setting the oven to turn on at a specific time, cook for a set duration, and/or shut off automatically. Delayed start is available but not recommended for breads and cakes.
  • Oven Preheating: The oven begins preheating when START is pressed. A tone sounds and the selected temperature appears when the preheat temperature is reached.
  • Oven Racks: Position racks before turning on the oven. Do not move hot racks with bakeware.
  • Oven Vent: Releases hot air and moisture; should not be blocked.
  • Broiling: Uses direct radiant heat. The oven door should remain open approximately 5" (12.7 cm) during broiling. A broiler pan and grid are recommended.
  • Cooktop Controls: Control knobs can be set between HI and LO.
  • Cooktop On Indicator Light (on some models): Illuminates when any control knob is turned on.
  • Hot Surface Indicator Light (on some models): On ceramic glass models, glows as long as any surface cooking area is too hot to touch.

Maintenance Features

  • Self-Cleaning Cycle (on some models):
    • Preparation: Remove broiler pan, grid, bakeware, cooking utensils, oven racks, aluminum foil, and temperature probe. Clean inside door edge and the 11/2" (3.8 cm) area around the oven cavity frame with a damp cloth, avoiding the gasket. Remove plastic items from the cooktop and all items from the storage drawer.
    • Operation: The oven door locks automatically during the cycle. Ash should be removed with a damp cloth once the oven has completely cooled.
  • General Cleaning:
    • Exterior Porcelain Enamel Surfaces: Clean with glass cleaner, mild liquid cleaner, nonabrasive scrubbing pad, or affresh® Kitchen and Appliance Cleaner.
    • Stainless Steel (on some models): Clean with affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner or liquid detergent/all-purpose cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel-wool pads, and harsh chemicals.
    • Metallic Paint (on some models): Do not use abrasive cleaners, bleach, rust removers, ammonia, or sodium hydroxide.
    • Ceramic Glass (on some models): Clean after each use with a clean, wet cloth or sponge. For stubborn soils, use affresh® Cooktop Cleaner, Cooktop Cleaning Pads, and a Cooktop Scraper. Cooktop Protectant is recommended for regular use.
    • Cooktop Controls: Clean with soap and water. Knobs can be pulled straight off for cleaning.
    • Control Panel and Oven Door Exterior: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth/sponge, or affresh® Kitchen and Appliance Cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel-wool pads, and gritty washcloths.
    • Coil Elements (on some models): Clean with a damp cloth when cool. Do not immerse in water.
    • Burner Bowls (on some models): Wash frequently in warm, soapy water. Mild abrasive cleaner and plastic scrubber can be used for stubborn stains. For heavily soiled bowls, use an ammonia-soaked paper towel.
    • Surface Under Cooktop (on some models): The coil cooktop lifts up for access. Clean with glass cleaner, mild liquid cleaner, nonabrasive scrubbing pad, or affresh® Kitchen and Appliance Cleaner.
    • Oven Cavity: Clean food spills when oven cools. Do not use oven cleaners.
    • Oven Racks: Clean with a steel-wool pad. A light coating of vegetable oil can help racks slide easier.
    • Storage Drawer: Clean with mild detergent when cool and empty.
  • Oven Light Replacement: Unplug the range, turn the glass bulb cover counterclockwise, remove the bulb counterclockwise, replace with a standard 40-watt appliance bulb, and reassemble.
