Overview

The Amazfit GTR 4 is a versatile smartwatch designed to enhance daily activities, health monitoring, and workout experiences. It offers a wide range of features, from basic operations and customizable watch faces to comprehensive health tracking and advanced workout modes.

Function Description

The Amazfit GTR 4 serves as a personal assistant on your wrist, providing notifications, health insights, and workout guidance. It connects to your smartphone via the Zepp app, allowing for seamless data synchronization and expanded functionality. The watch supports various sensors for accurate health and activity tracking, including heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress levels. It also features GPS for outdoor activities, ensuring precise route and distance recording.

Usage Features

Connection and Pairing: The watch pairs with your smartphone via the Zepp app, which can be downloaded by scanning a QR code. It requires Android 7.0 or iOS 12.0 or higher. Initial pairing involves scanning a QR code displayed on the watch screen. For pairing with a new phone, you first unpair from the old device through the Zepp app and Bluetooth settings, then restore factory settings on the watch before pairing with the new phone.

Basic Operations: The watch is operated through a combination of gestures and physical buttons. Tapping the screen activates features or selects items. Pressing and holding the watch face allows for selection and settings adjustments. Covering the screen turns it off. Swiping left or right navigates between pages, while swiping up or down scrolls or switches pages. The digital crown also facilitates scrolling and page switching. A long press of the upper button powers on the device, accesses the restart page, or performs a force restart.

Control Center: Swiping down from the watch face accesses the Control Center, offering quick access to system features like Power Saving mode, DND, Sleep mode, Theater mode, Calendar, Volume, Keep Screen On, Brightness, Settings, Flashlight, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Screen Lock, and Find My Phone.

Watch Faces: The Amazfit GTR 4 offers customizable watch faces, many of which support "compilations" – editable data displays for steps, calories, weather, and more. Users can edit these compilations directly on the watch or choose from a variety of online watch faces via the Zepp app. Custom watch faces can also be created using photos from your phone. Watch faces can be changed by long-pressing the current watch face and swiping through options. Unwanted watch faces can be deleted to free up storage.

Always On Display: This feature keeps the time and essential watch face information visible in standby mode, though it consumes more battery. Users can select different screen styles and enable/disable this feature through the watch's settings.

Notifications and Calls: When connected to your phone, the watch receives app alerts, which can be viewed in the notification center by swiping up from the watch face. Notifications can be cleared individually or all at once. The watch also supports Bluetooth calling, allowing you to receive and make calls directly from your wrist. Incoming call alerts display on the watch, enabling you to ignore or hang up calls.

Morning Updates: With Morning Updates enabled, the watch provides a daily summary of information like weather, workout status, health status, and personal affairs, helping you prepare for the day. Content and display order can be customized.

Shortcuts: Shortcut Cards, accessed by swiping right on the watch face, provide quick access to frequently used features and information like events, alarms, or BPM data. Quick Access Apps, viewed by swiping left, allow for rapid access to chosen watch features, such as "Workout." Buttons can also be configured for quick start-up of specific apps.

Workouts: The watch supports over 150 workout modes, covering a wide range of activities from running and cycling to swimming and combat sports. Users can select workouts from a list, and for GPS-enabled activities, the watch searches for a signal before starting, indicating readiness with a green status bar. During workouts, users can navigate data pages by swiping or rotating the digital crown. The screen can be locked automatically to prevent accidental touches, especially useful for swimming where the touchscreen is continuously disabled.

Workout Settings and Assistant: Workout settings can be adjusted on the preparation page, with parameters varying by mode. The Workout Assistant offers tools like workout goals (duration, distance, calories), workout alerts (distance, heart rate, pace), auto laps, auto pause, cadence assistant, and virtual pacer. Interval training can be customized with specific training and rest stages. Data items displayed during workouts can be edited, added, or sorted, with support for various real-time charts. A 3D data mode calculates distance based on altitude and slope changes for more accurate tracking.

Special Workout Modes: Specific settings are available for certain workouts, such as wearing the watch on the racket-holding hand for tennis, setting pool length for swimming, or recalibrating treadmill data. Swimming modes recognize various strokes and display the main stroke used.

Workout History: Workout records are automatically saved to the Workout History app on the watch, including data, GPS traces, lap/set data, and personal bests. A wider range of data and dynamic routes are available in the Zepp app.

Physical Indicators for Workouts: The watch provides physical indicators like Training Effect (TE), Training Load, Total Recovery Time, and VO2 Max to evaluate workout performance and guide training. These metrics are calculated based on personal information and workout data, improving accuracy over time.

Activities and Health: One-tap Measurement: Quickly checks heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, and respiration rate. Sleep Monitoring: Automatically records sleep information, including night sleep and naps, based on a customizable sleep schedule. Assisted sleep monitoring tracks REM stages, and sleep breathing quality monitoring helps understand sleep status. PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence): Measures physiological activity based on BMP, daily activity intensity, and physiological data, providing a score to reflect overall physical condition. Maintaining a PAI above 100 is linked to reduced cardiovascular risk. Heart Rate Monitoring: Provides highly-frequent heart rate measurements, all-day curves, resting heart rate, and interval distribution. Auto heart rate monitoring adjusts frequency based on activity. Alerts can be set for high or low heart rates. Blood Oxygen Monitoring (SpO2): Measures blood oxygen levels, an important physiological indicator. Auto monitoring tracks changes throughout the day, and alerts can be set for low blood oxygen levels. Stress Monitoring: Calculates stress index based on heart rate variability. Auto stress monitoring tracks changes every five minutes, and stress relief reminders notify you if stress levels are high. Activity Tracking: Monitors daily activity with indicators for steps/calories, fat burning, and standing. It also records resting consumption, walking time, sitting time, stair climbing, and distance. Goal notifications alert you when targets are met. Stand Reminders: Encourages movement every hour to reduce sedentary behavior. Cycle Tracking: Helps track menstrual cycles, predict fertile periods and ovulation days, and provides reminders.

Voice Features: Offline Voice: Allows control of most watch features even without phone connection. Wake-up modes include responding after wrist turn, screen light-up, or during screen light-up. Supports multiple languages and a variety of commands for opening apps, controlling music, starting workouts, and setting alarms/timers. Alexa: Integrates with Amazon Alexa for smart home commands, weather, alarms, reminders, jokes, lists, search, and translation. Activated by pressing and holding the upper button or using a shortcut card.

Multimedia Features: Local Music Playback: Stores and plays MP3 music files directly on the watch speaker or connected Bluetooth audio devices. Music files are transferred from the phone via the Zepp app. Music Remote Controller: Controls music playback on your phone when connected, allowing you to play, pause, skip tracks, and adjust volume. Voice Memos: Records, plays, and manages recording files, with the option to transfer them to the phone.

Convenient Life: Membership Card: Stores up to 20 membership cards by scanning QR codes or barcodes, or by importing photos.

Watch Apps: The watch includes various standalone apps like Workout, Heart Rate, and Weather, accessible from the app list. Alarm: Supports up to 10 alarms with repeat and smart wake-up features, waking you during light sleep within 30 minutes of the set time. Calendar: Synchronizes up to 200 events from the Zepp app and phone's system calendar, displaying events for the current and next 30 days. Provides event reminders. To-Do List: Creates and manages up to 60 to-dos with reminder times and repetitions, accessible via the Zepp app. Pomodoro Tracker: Manages time scientifically with customizable work and break periods, automatically entering DND mode during work time. World Clock: Adds clocks for different cities via the Zepp app, displaying real-time local times. Stopwatch: Times up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds with 0.01-second accuracy, recording up to 99 counts. Countdown: Provides 8 quick setup shortcuts and manual setting for countdowns up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds. Camera Remote: Remotely controls your phone's camera, with options for immediate or 3-second delayed photos. Requires Bluetooth pairing for iOS and specific settings in the Zepp app for Android. WLAN Settings: Connects to wireless networks via the watch's settings, with password entry handled through the Zepp app. Bluetooth Settings: Pairs with Bluetooth audio devices. Setting a Password: Enables off-wrist lock with a password for security. Wearing Direction: Adjusts button and watch face orientation for preferred wearing.

Maintenance Features

System Updates: The watch system can be updated through the Zepp app under Profile > My devices > Amazfit GTR 4 > System Update. It is recommended to update immediately when a new version is available.

Data Synchronization: Regularly synchronize workout data to the Zepp app to prevent data overwrite due to limited storage space on the watch.

App Background Management: For Android phones, ensure the Zepp app is added to the allowlist or auto-run list to prevent it from being terminated by the phone's background process, which could lead to disconnection and loss of notifications or music control.

Battery Life Management: Be aware that features like "Always On Display" and "Continuous workout status monitoring" can significantly reduce battery life. Adjust settings as needed to optimize battery performance.

Measurement Accuracy: For accurate health measurements (e.g., blood oxygen, heart rate), ensure the watch is worn correctly – not too tight or loose, a finger's distance from the carpal, arm flat and still during measurement, and the skin clean. External factors like arm hair, tattoos, or low temperature can affect accuracy.

Troubleshooting: If a paired Bluetooth device cannot connect, cancel pairing and re-pair. If GPS positioning is slow, update AGPS via the Zepp app or move to an open area.
