Collect up the refrigerant in an
approved container. The system
must be ushed with an oxygen-
free nitrogen gas to make it
safe. This ushing may need
to be repeated several times.
Compressed air or oxygen must
not be used to ush the system.
Flushing must be carried out
by releasing the vacuum in
the system with oxygen-free
nitrogen, which ows in the
system until normal working
pressure is reached, after which
the system is ventilated to the
outside air and then vacuum
pumped. This procedure must
be repeated until there is no
longer any refrigerant in the
system. After lling with oxygen-
free nitrogen for the last time
the system must be ventilated
down to atmospheric pressure so
that the work can be done. The
procedure is unavoidable if hard
soldering is to be carried out.
Check that the vacuum pump
outlet is not placed near any
sources of ignition and that the
area around the outlet is well
ventilated.
Filling
The following measures must be
taken in addition to the standard
procedures for conventional
lling.
• Make sure that
contamination of dierent
refrigerants cannot occur
when using the lling
equipment. Keep hoses and
pipes as short as possible to
minimise their content of
refrigerant.
• Gas cylinders must be
upright.
• Make sure that the
refrigerant system is earthed
before lling refrigerant.
Label the system when the
lling is ready (if this has not
already been done).
• Be careful when lling with
refrigerant,
so as not to overll the
system.
