-TERMINAL
SETTINGS
The
first s
tep
is
to
set
the
var
i
ous
parameters
within
the
Setting
menu.
Select
Terminal
from
the
Settings
window.
The
window,
s
hown
in figure 8.5,
appear
s
on
the
Mac
display.
The
window
shows
the
def
a ult
settings
which
will
appear
when
the
new
MacTerminal
document
is
created.
Any
settings
made
through
the
Settings
windows
will be
saved
al
ong
with
the
MacTerminal
document.
The
first
item
in
the
window,
Terminal, sets
the
type
of
terminal
which
the
Mac
will
emulate.
Normally,
all
characters
se
nt
by
any
type
of
terminal
are
in
the
ASCII
code.
The
s
pecial
characters,
how
eve
r,
ma
y
not
be
sent
by
a
certai
n
terminal
type
.
These
characters
might
include
commands
sent
using
the
Command
,
Option,
Enter,
Tab,
or
Shift
keys.
VTIOOT,.
nor-
mally
d
ea
ls
with
all
of
the
se
characters.
Teletype
(TTY)
emula-
tion
,
on
the
other
hand
,
deals
in
few,
if
any,
of
these.
The
proper
c
hoic
e for
your
appl
i
ca
tion
of
MacTerminal
de
pends
solely
upon
the requirements
and
capabilities
of
the remote computer.
The
next
se
tting
, Compatibility,
determin
es
the
other
typ
es
of
te
rminal
s
with
which
the
Mac
will
communicate.
Many
of
the
various
data
coding
format
s
are
compatible
with
those
termin
al
formats
which
the
Mac
can
emu
l
ate.
The
Amer-
ican
National
Standards
Ins
titute
(ANSI)
data
format
and
the
VT52T,.
format
are
both
compatible
with
the
VTlOO
format.
That
is,
when
MacTerminal
is
set
for
VTlOO
emulation,
the
Mac
can
communicate
with a
computer
which
r
ecog
nizes
th
e
VT
lOO
,
VT52
,
or
ANS
I
format.
The
other
options
with
the
Termina
l
item
h
ave
di
fferent
compatibilities.
The
compatibil
i-
ties
which
are
not
availab
le in
each
case
will
be
dimmed
when
th
at
option
is selected.
