Now
that
all
communications
settings
ha
ve
been
properly
mad
e, we
are
ready
to
make
contact
with
the
outside
world.
The
Phone
menu
is
depicted in figure 8.11. Pull
down
the
Phone
menu
and
select
Phone
Settings.
The
window,
depict
ed
in figure 8.12, will
appear.
The
purpose
of
this
window
is
to
record
th
e tel
ep
hone
numb
er
which
the
modem
will call
to
contact
the
remote
computer.
It
is
also used
to
set
the
dialing
conditions
for
the
mod
em.
Enter
the
number
of
a
computer
service into
the
blank.
As
with
many
other
Mac
menu
windows
,
th
e
blank
will
appear
with
the
previous
number
highlighted
if
it
already
contai
ns
an
e
ntry.
The
majority
of
the
telephone
systems
toda
y have
been
converted
to
touch
tone
service. To
instruct
th
e
modem
to
dial
th
e
phone
number
using tones, select Tone from
the
Dial
item
.
If
you
are
in
an
area
which uses
the
rotary
dial
pulse
system,
select
Pulse.
These
two
will be the
most
pr
eval
ent
cases.
If, however,
you
are
in
an
area
where a
mixture
of
tones
and
pulses
is
required
,
MacTerminal
can
accommodate
thi
s
as
well.
Entering
aT
into
the
phon
e
number
sequence will
instruct
th
e
mod
em
to
use tones. A P will
indicat
e
rotary
pulses.
To
enter
a mixed
dial
instruction
into
the
Phon
e
Settings
window
,
simply
insert
aT
or
Pin
the
appropriate
position
in
the
numb
er
seque
nce.
The
modem
will
change
mod
es
at
the
specified point.
