You may wish

connect The

computer such as the IBM
PC
XT using the modem but not the
telephone.

Hayes modem
is
capable
of
this configuration.
Connect the modems back

back as shown in the Hayes
modem manual. As an example, instruct the Mac

dial the
PC
XT.
The modem will dial the number and wait for
an
answer. Since there
is
no ringing, the IBM
PC
XT's modem will
not
automatically answer.

PC

a direct modem command forcing it
to
answer the telephone.
The modems will connect normally.
