  If the light on your Aprilaire Air Cleaner flashes on and off quickly, it could be due to several reasons: Over current or arcing detected, ensure components are dry. Excessive humidity - run cooling to lower humidity levels. Ensure that all 9 ionizer wires are held at both ends. Look for foreign object contacting ionizer wires or buss bar. Door not fully installed - ensure door is latched into top and bottom retainer. Insufficient current to sustain Model 51 relay, wrap blower common wire around relay bracket more. Loose connection in outlet junction box or at furnace/air handler EAC terminal, check wire nuts, screw terminals and crimped connectors for loose wires. Use only fully insulated crimped connectors.

  If the light on your Aprilaire Air Cleaner doesn't illuminate after 90 seconds, check the following: Ensure the ON/OFF switch is in the ON position. Verify the air cleaner is properly plugged in. If there's insufficient current to activate the Model 51 relay, wrap the blower common wire around the relay bracket more. Make sure the furnace/air handler is running by initiating a heat call or turning the Fan ON.

  If the green light on your Aprilaire Air Cleaner blinks about every minute, it indicates an over current or arcing between components. Check the following: Ensure all components are dry. Make sure the ionizer frame-grounding clip touches the conductive rubber strip. Confirm the airflow detection circuit openings inside the power pack/door are clear. Remove any debris that might be bridging the gap between the ionizing wires and other components.

Why is my Aprilaire Air Cleaner making a buzzing sound or causing TV interference?

  If your Aprilaire Air Cleaner is making a buzzing sound or causing TV interference, it could be due to a large crack or hole in the air filter, which would require replacing the air filter. Another cause might be a poor connection between the media ground strip and the air filter media; remove and reinstall the ground strip. Alternatively, there could be poor contact between the control electrode and ground contact; push in the control electrode so it fully seats in the ionizer frame. Also, check if the ground contacts are not touching the door liner; bend up the ground contacts so they are at least 3/4” higher than the top of the inner housing. Finally, ensure the media ground contacts are fully installed; remove and reinstall them if needed.
