Overview

The ALD-100 Electronic Refrigerant Leak Detector is a sophisticated tool designed for detecting leaks in various A/C refrigerant systems. It is capable of responding to all halogenated refrigerants, making it a versatile instrument for professionals in HVAC and automotive industries.

Function Description

The primary function of the ALD-100 is to identify leaks of halogenated refrigerants. When powered on, the unit automatically calibrates itself to ignore the ambient level of halogen, allowing it to pinpoint leaks by detecting higher concentrations of halogen at the leak source. The device offers seven levels of sensitivity, which can be adjusted to focus on the concentration appropriate for the user's location. Sensitivity increases 64 times from level 1 to level 7. It features 18 alarm levels, indicated by both a single-color visual display and an audible siren tone, to help users locate leaks effectively. The alarm level increases as the probe approaches a leak, with the last 6 LEDs lighting up and changing color from Red, Green, and Orange to indicate the alarm level. The unit also includes a battery test function with voltage indication, ensuring the user is aware of the battery status (Green for good, Orange for low, Red for replacement). A fast and easy reset function allows the detector to be zeroed out, which is particularly useful in contaminated areas or when a full alarm is indicated before the leak source is found, enabling the user to find progressively greater concentrations.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Application: Detects R12, R11, R500, R22, R123, R124, R502, R134a, R404a, R125 refrigerants and blends such as HP62 and MP39.
  • Operating Temperature: 0 °C - 52 °C (30°F - 125°F).
  • Maximum Sensitivity: 3 g/yr. for all halogenated refrigerants.
  • Battery Life: Approximately 50 hours of normal use.
  • Response Time: Instant.
  • Work Mode: Continuous, no limitations.
  • Fixed Probe Length: 14 inches.
  • Dimension: 9 x 2.5 x 2.5 inches.
  • Power Supply: 2 C Alkaline batteries.
  • Packing List: Includes 1 Leak detector, 2 Sensing tips, 1 Aluminum case, 1 Flexible probe, 2 C batteries, and 1 User Manual.

Usage Features

The ALD-100 is designed for ease of use. To begin, the user presses the ON button, and the display will show an indication for 3 seconds. A green light flashes initially to confirm good battery status. Sensitivity can be adjusted using the up or down arrow buttons; the default sensitivity level is 5. A continuous beep tone indicates normal functioning. When a leak is detected, the beep tone changes to a siren, and the LED display shows the alarm level. Sensitivity can be adjusted at any time during use. If a full alarm occurs before the leak source is found, pressing the RESET key will zero out the detector, allowing the user to find higher concentrations. The unit's automatic circuit ensures that upon power-on, it ignores the current halogen level, making it ready to detect leaks by identifying higher concentrations. In windy areas, shielding potential leak sites from wind is recommended to facilitate finding concentrations of leaked gas. The detector may alarm if the probe tip contacts moisture or solvents, so direct contact with these materials should be avoided.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of the ALD-100. Users are advised to keep the sensing tip clean from dust, moisture, and grease. If the tip becomes dirty, it can be cleaned by immersing it in a mild solvent, such as alcohol, for several seconds, followed by drying with compressed air or a towel. Harsh solvents like gasoline or turpentine minerals should not be used to clean the product. Before replacing the sensing tip, the tool should be turned off to avoid mild electric shock. For extended periods of non-use, the batteries should be removed to prevent damage. The device should not be submerged in water or exposed to temperatures exceeding 60°C. It should also not be left in direct sunlight for long periods. Unauthorized dismantling or repair attempts are discouraged. The product is not a toy and should be kept away from children and working areas.
