1. Checks to the area
Priortobeginningworkonsystemscontainingammablerefrigerants,safetychecksare
necessarytoensurethattheriskofignitionisminimised.Forrepairtotherefrigerating
system,thefollowingprecautionsshallbecompliedwithpriortoconductingworkonthe
system.
Workprocedure
Workshallbeundertakenunderacontrolledproceduresoastominimisetheriskofa
ammablegasorvapourbeingpresentwhiletheworkisbeingperformed.
2. General work area
AIImaintenancestaandothersworkinginthelocalareashallbeinstructedonthenature
ofworkbeingcarriedout.Workinconnedspacesshallbeavoided.Theareaaroundthe
workspaceshallbesectionedo.Ensurethattheconditionswithintheareahavebeen
madesafebycontrolofammablematerial.
3. Checking for presence of refrigerant
Theareashallbecheckedwithanappropriaterefrigerantdetectorpriortoand during
work,toensurethetechnicianisawareofpotentiallyammableatmospheres.Ensurethat
theleakdetectionequipmentbeingusedissuitableforusewithammablerefrigerants,
i.e.nonsparking,adequatelysealedorintrinsicallysafe.
4. Presenceofreextinguisher
Ifanyhotworkistobeconductedontherefrigerationequipmentoranyassociatedparts,
appropriatereextinguishingequipmentshallbeavailabletohand.Haveadrypowderor
CO2reextinguisheradjacenttothechargingarea.
5. No ignition sources
Nopersoncarryingoutworkinrelationtoarefrigerationsystemwhichinvolvesexposing
anypipeworkthatcontainsorhascontainedammablerefrigerantshalluseanysources
ofignitioninsuchamannerthatitmayleadtotheriskofreorexplosion.AIIpossible
ignitionsources,includingcigarettesmoking,shouldbekeptsucientlyfarawayfromthe
siteofinstallation,repairing,removinganddisposal,duringwhichammablerefrigerant
