Do you have a question about the Aritech DD66X Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The DD66X Series Dual Detector is a sophisticated security device designed for advanced intrusion detection, combining both passive infrared (PIR) and microwave (MW) technologies. This dual-technology approach enhances detection reliability and reduces false alarms by requiring both technologies to trigger simultaneously for an alarm. The detector is suitable for a wide range of indoor applications, offering flexible installation options and configurable settings to adapt to various environmental conditions.

Function Description

The DD66X series detectors operate on the principle of dual technology, meaning an alarm is only triggered when both the PIR and microwave sensors detect movement. This significantly reduces the likelihood of false alarms caused by environmental factors such as drafts, temperature changes, or small animals, which might only trigger one sensor.

The PIR sensor detects changes in infrared radiation caused by the movement of warm bodies within its field of view. The microwave sensor, on the other hand, emits microwave energy and detects changes in the reflected signal caused by movement. The combination of these two technologies provides robust detection capabilities.

The detector features a dual loop zone, allowing for flexible wiring configurations, including single-device and multiple-device setups. It supports various alarm and tamper outputs, providing comprehensive security signaling to a control panel. The device also includes LEDs for visual indication of status, such as alarm, tamper, and walk test modes, which are crucial for installation and maintenance.

Models within the DD66X series, such as the DD66XAM, incorporate anti-masking (AM) functionality. This feature detects attempts to obstruct the detector's field of view, either by spraying, covering, or placing objects in front of the lens, thereby enhancing the detector's resilience against sabotage.

The detector is designed for ceiling mounting, offering a wide coverage pattern depending on the mounting height. It includes adjustable sensitivity settings for both PIR and microwave channels, allowing installers to fine-tune the detector's performance to suit specific site requirements.

Usage Features

Flexible Mounting: The detector is designed for ceiling mounting, with a recommended height range of 2.5 to 5.0 meters. The mounting plate allows for easy installation and adjustment.

Adjustable Coverage: The detector's coverage pattern can be adjusted by rotating the sensor module up to ±15° (max. 30°) and selecting different curtain configurations. This allows for optimization of the detection area to suit the specific room layout and prevent detection beyond the desired zone.

Sensitivity Settings: Both PIR and microwave channels offer adjustable sensitivity levels. This feature is crucial for adapting the detector to different environments, minimizing false alarms in areas with potential disturbances, and ensuring optimal detection performance. The sensitivity can be configured via DIP switches on the detector module.

Dual Loop Wiring: The detector supports dual loop wiring, which simplifies installation in systems with multiple detectors or where specific wiring configurations are required. This allows for separate alarm and tamper loops, providing enhanced supervision of the detector's status.

Walk Test Mode: A walk test mode is available to verify the detector's coverage and functionality after installation. During a walk test, the LEDs on the detector illuminate to indicate detection events, allowing installers to confirm that the PIR and microwave sensors are operating correctly and covering the intended area.

Anti-masking (AM) Functionality (DD66XAM models): This feature provides an additional layer of security by detecting attempts to mask or obstruct the detector's view. If the detector is masked, an anti-masking alarm is triggered, alerting the security system to potential sabotage. This is particularly useful in high-security environments.

LED Indicators: The detector is equipped with LEDs that provide visual feedback on its status, including power, alarm, tamper, and walk test indications. These indicators are invaluable during installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Pet Immunity (Not Pet Immune): It is important to note that the DD66X series detectors are not pet immune. This means they are designed to detect any movement within their coverage area, including that of pets. Therefore, careful consideration of pet presence is required during installation and configuration to avoid false alarms.

Day/Night Mode: The detector can be configured to operate in different modes depending on the time of day. This allows for customized sensitivity or operational parameters, for example, to reduce sensitivity during the day when the premises are occupied and increase it at night when the premises are vacant.

Microwave Supervision: The microwave channel includes supervision features to detect potential failures or tampering attempts related to the microwave signal. This ensures the continuous integrity of the microwave detection capability.

Maintenance Features

Self-Test Functionality: The detector incorporates a self-test function that periodically checks the operation of both PIR and microwave sensors, as well as the anti-masking feature (if applicable). This ensures the detector is continuously functioning correctly and can report any internal faults to the control panel.

Easy Access for Configuration: The detector's design allows for easy access to DIP switches and jumpers for configuration and sensitivity adjustments without requiring complete disassembly. This simplifies maintenance and re-configuration tasks.

Troubleshooting LEDs: The status LEDs provide quick visual diagnostics for troubleshooting. Different LED patterns or colors can indicate specific issues, such as power problems, sensor faults, or alarm conditions, aiding technicians in identifying and resolving problems efficiently.

Modular Design: The detector features a modular design, which can facilitate easier replacement of components if necessary, although specific details on component-level replacement are not extensively detailed in the general user manual.

Walk Test for Verification: Regular walk tests are recommended as part of routine maintenance to ensure the detector's coverage and functionality remain optimal over time. This helps identify any changes in the environment or detector performance that might require adjustment.

Firmware Updates: While not explicitly detailed as a user-accessible feature, modern detectors often support firmware updates to improve performance, add new features, or address known issues. This would typically be performed by trained technicians.

Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the detector lens and housing is important to ensure optimal performance, especially for the PIR sensor, which can be affected by dust or obstructions on the lens. The manual does not provide specific cleaning instructions but implies general maintenance.

Environmental Adaptability: The ability to adjust sensitivity and coverage patterns allows the detector to be re-calibrated if environmental conditions change, such as new furniture layouts or changes in air circulation, ensuring continued reliable operation.
