Do you have a question about the ARMADEX Ex-M OZC and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ARMADEX EX-USER GUIDE WITH SAFETY NOTES describes the ATEX Zone 2 Explosion Proof Camera Ex-M OZC, a modified camera designed for safe use in hazardous areas. This document serves as an additional guide to the OEM FUJIFILM Corporation's documentation, providing crucial safety notes, requirements, and measures for operating the Ex-M OZC in ATEX zone 2 environments.

Function Description

The ARMADEX Ex-M OZC is an explosion-proof optical zoom camera specifically engineered for taking pictures or making movies of equipment or installations within ATEX zone 2 hazardous areas, both inside and outside industrial plants or factories. The camera is a modified version of an OEM FUJIFILM Corporation camera, adapted to meet ATEX Category 3G requirements for safe operation in potentially explosive atmospheres.

A key modification for explosion safety is the removal of the flash function. All hardware and components related to the flash function have been physically removed from the camera. Although the flash function is disabled, selecting it in the camera menu will not activate the flash but may cause a software error, which can be resolved by turning the camera off and on again.

The camera's design incorporates various explosion protection methods to ensure its suitability for hazardous environments. These methods and compliance with harmonized standards of the ATEX EU directive 2014/34/EU are detailed in the EU Declaration of Conformity.

Important Technical Specifications

The ARMADEX Ex-M OZC camera operates on a 3.7 VDC power supply with a maximum consumption of 4.5 Watts. Its power source is a rechargeable Panasonic UL Listed MH10188 32WH 700mAh battery. For charging, the camera requires a 5VDC USB connection, which must only be used outside hazardous areas.

The camera also features WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. These wireless functions operate with power levels below the explosion-safe RF frequency thresholds specified in EN 60079-10-0 6.6.1, ensuring their safe use in ATEX zone 2.

The camera's non-metallic casing has a surface resistance above 10^9 Ω/Square, which necessitates a warning about the risk of electrostatic charge. Therefore, the camera must only be cleaned with a damp cloth and never rubbed with a dry cloth.

The product designation and marking affixed to the camera are: CE II 3G Ex h ic T4 Gc. This marking indicates its compliance with ATEX directive 2014/34/EU for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, specifically for Gas (G) environments in Zone 2 (3G), with protection type 'h' (inherent safety), temperature class T4, and equipment protection level 'Gc'.

The camera consists of several key components:

  • Camera PCB (Printed Circuit Board)
  • Optical zoom motor
  • Lens actuator
  • Battery

Usage Features

The camera's operation largely follows the OEM manual, with specific safety precautions and restrictions for hazardous environments.

  • Intended Use: The camera is designed exclusively for taking pictures and videos in ATEX zone 2 hazardous areas.
  • Personnel Qualification: Only competent personnel with adequate knowledge of explosion safety and hazardous area classification (minimum IECEx 005-001 or comparable basic knowledge) are permitted to use the camera.
  • Battery and Memory Card Handling: The battery compartment, battery, and memory card can only be opened, removed, or placed inside a non-hazardous area. Charging the battery must also occur in a non-hazardous area.
  • Cleaning: Due to the non-metallic casing's surface resistance and the risk of electrostatic charge, the camera must only be cleaned with a damp cloth. Dry rubbing is strictly prohibited.
  • Damage Protocol: If the camera sustains visible damage, such as falling from a height above 2 meters or any other impact, it is no longer considered explosion-proof and must not be used. Any alterations affecting safety must be reported to the owner immediately.
  • Prohibited Zones: The camera is strictly prohibited for use in zone 0 (e.g., inside a tank or tank wagon) and zone 1 (e.g., direct vicinity of a pump or hose connection) situations.
  • Documentation: Users must read and understand this Ex user guide and all referred documents (OEM user guides, safety notes, Declaration of Unit Assessment, and EU Declaration of Conformity) before operating, starting up, or testing the camera. In case of conflicting instructions, those in this document prevail.

Maintenance Features

The ARMADEX Ex-M OZC is designed with specific maintenance requirements to ensure its continued explosion-proof integrity.

  • Prohibited Modifications: The equipment, including all components supplied by Armadex/Ex-Machinery, must not be modified. Any unauthorized modification will invalidate the ATEX EU Declaration of Conformity.
  • Serviceable Parts: The unit does not contain any user-serviceable parts. At the end of its technical life, the entire unit must be replaced.
  • Repair and Overhaul: Repair, maintenance, and overhaul of the camera must only be conducted by Ex-Machinery Explosion Proof Equipment B.V. or by a repairer qualified and authorized by Ex-Machinery Explosion Proof Equipment B.V.
  • Inspection: Upon delivery, the camera must be unpacked and checked for any damage. If damage is found, the camera should not be used, and the shipping company and selling party must be contacted immediately.
  • Regular Inspections: To maintain compliance with ATEX regulations throughout its technical life, the equipment must be included in inspection requirements according to EN 60079-17.
  • Readability of Markings: Any ideograms, signs, and markings applied to the camera must be observed and kept in a readable state.
