Overview

This document is a user guide for the ASUS PB277 Series LCD Monitor, providing comprehensive instructions for setup, operation, and maintenance. It is designed to help users maximize their viewing experience with this widescreen LCD monitor, which offers a crisp, broader, and brighter display alongside a variety of enhancing features.

The monitor's primary function is to provide a visual display for computers and other video sources. It supports multiple input types, including VGA, DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort, making it versatile for various setups. The monitor is designed for ease of assembly and offers ergonomic adjustments to ensure user comfort.

Usage Features:

The ASUS PB277 Series LCD Monitor is equipped with several features to enhance usability and viewing quality.

Assembly and Ergonomics:

The monitor is designed for straightforward assembly. Users can easily attach the monitor base to the display and secure it with a screw. A cable clip is provided to help manage cables and maintain a tidy workspace. The monitor offers extensive ergonomic adjustments, including:

  • Tilt: The monitor's angle can be adjusted from +20° to -5°, allowing users to find the most comfortable viewing position.
  • Swivel: It provides a 60° swivel adjustment to both the left and right, facilitating easy screen sharing or repositioning without moving the entire stand.
  • Height Adjustment: The monitor's height can be adjusted within a range of +/- 12cm, catering to different user heights and desk setups.
  • Pivot: The monitor can be pivoted clockwise to a vertical orientation, which is particularly useful for reading documents or viewing long web pages. To pivot, users must first lift the monitor to its highest position and tilt it to its maximum angle.

On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu:

The OSD menu is accessed via a 5-way button located on the back of the monitor, allowing users to navigate and adjust various settings. The menu is intuitive, with options highlighted as the user moves through them. Key OSD functions include:

  • Splendid: This feature offers eight sub-functions for optimizing the display based on content type. These modes include Scenery Mode, Standard Mode, Theater Mode, Game Mode, Night View Mode, sRGB Mode, Reading Mode, and Darkroom Mode. Each mode has a Reset option to revert to preset settings. For instance, Scenery Mode is ideal for displaying photos, while Game Mode enhances the experience for gaming. Some functions like Saturation, SkinTone, Sharpness, and ASCR may not be user-configurable in certain Splendid modes (e.g., Standard, sRGB, or Reading Mode).

  • Blue Light Filter: This function allows users to adjust the energy level of blue light emitted from the LED backlight, with levels ranging from 0 (no change) to 4 (maximum reduction). Higher levels reduce more blue light, which can help alleviate eye strain. Levels 1 to 3 allow brightness adjustment, while Level 4 is an optimized setting compliant with TUV Low Blue Light Certification, where brightness is not user-configurable. The manual also provides recommendations for alleviating eye strain, such as taking regular breaks and performing eye exercises.

  • Color Settings: Users can adjust various color parameters, including Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation, all with an adjusting range from 0 to 100. Color Temp. offers three preset modes (Cool, Normal, Warm) and a User Mode, where Red, Green, and Blue colors can be individually configured. Skin Tone provides Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish options. Smart View offers versatile viewing positions.

  • Image Settings: This section allows fine-tuning of image quality. Options include:

    • Sharpness: Adjusts picture sharpness from 0 to 100.
    • Trace Free: Speeds up response time using Over Drive technology, with an adjusting range from 0 to 100.
    • Aspect Control: Adjusts the aspect ratio to Full, 4:3, 1:1, or Overscan. Note that 4:3 is only available for 4:3 input sources, and Overscan is exclusive to HDMI input.
    • VividPixel: ASUS Exclusive Technology that enhances visuals for crystal-clear and detail-oriented enjoyment, adjustable from 0 to 100.
    • ASCR: Enables or disables the dynamic contrast ratio function.
    • Position (VGA only): Adjusts horizontal and vertical image positions from 0 to 100.
    • Focus (VGA only): Reduces horizontal and vertical line noise by adjusting Phase and Clock separately, from 0 to 100.
    • AUTO Adjust. (VGA only): Automatically optimizes image position, clock, and phase.
  • Sound Settings: Users can adjust the output Volume, Mute the sound, and select the audio Source (Line In, HDMI, or DisplayPort).

  • PIP/PBP Setting: This feature allows the monitor to display two pictures from two different video sources simultaneously. Users can select PIP (Picture-in-Picture) or PBP (Picture-by-Picture) mode, choose the video input source for the sub-window (VGA, DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort), adjust the PIP size (Small, Middle, Large), set the sub-window Position (Right-Top, Left-Top, Right-Bottom, Left-Bottom), control the Aspect Control of the PIP window, and Swap the main and sub-window sources.

  • Input Select: A dedicated hotkey and OSD option allow users to switch between VGA, DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort input signals.

  • System Setup: This section configures system-level settings:

    • Splendid Demo Mode: Activates a demo mode for the Splendid function.
    • GamePlus: Provides a toolkit for gamers, including Crosshair and Timer functions. Users can select and activate these features from the GamePlus menu.
    • DisplayPort Stream: Allows selection of DP 1.1 or DP 1.2 for compatibility with graphic cards.
    • ECO Mode: Activates a power-saving mode.
    • OSD Setup: Adjusts OSD Timeout, DDC/CI, and Transparency of the OSD screen.
    • Language: Selects the OSD language from a wide range of options including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Persian, Thai, Indonesian, Poland, Turkey, Portugal, Czech, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, and Korean.

    • Power Indicator: Toggles the power LED indicator on/off.
    • Power Key Lock: Disables or enables the power key.
    • All Reset: Reverts all settings to the factory default mode.

QuickFit Function:

The QuickFit button is a hotkey that activates a function designed for alignment. It offers three patterns:

  • Grid Pattern: Facilitates content organization and layout, providing a consistent look and feel for designers and users.
  • Paper Size: Allows users to view documents in real size on the screen, with options like A4, B5, and Letter.

Safety Information:

The user guide emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Always read all documentation before setup.
  • Never expose the monitor to rain or moisture to prevent fire or shock hazards.
  • Do not attempt to open the monitor cabinet due to dangerous high voltages inside.
  • If the power supply is broken, contact a qualified service technician.
  • Ensure all cables are correctly connected and undamaged before use.
  • Do not block ventilation slots on the cabinet.
  • Operate the monitor only from the specified power source.
  • Use the appropriate power plug for local standards.
  • Avoid overloading power strips and extension cords.
  • Keep the monitor away from dust, humidity, and extreme temperatures, and place it on a stable surface.
  • Unplug the unit during lightning storms or prolonged periods of disuse.
  • Never push objects or spill liquid into the monitor cabinet.
  • Use only UL listed computers with appropriate receptacles (100 ~ 240V AC).
  • The socket-outlet should be easily accessible and installed near the equipment.
  • In case of technical problems, contact a qualified service technician or retailer.
  • Ensure an earthing connection before connecting the mains plug, and disconnect the earthing connection after pulling out the mains plug.
  • WARNING: Using other than specified head- or earphones can lead to hearing loss due to excessive sound pressures.

Cleaning Instructions:

  • Before lifting or repositioning the monitor, disconnect cables and the power cord.
  • When lifting or carrying, grasp the edges of the monitor, not the stand or cord.
  • To clean, turn off the monitor and unplug the power cord.
  • Use a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth to clean the surface.
  • For stubborn stains, a cloth dampened with mild cleaner can be used.
  • Avoid cleaners containing alcohol or acetone.
  • Use a cleaner specifically designed for LCDs.
  • Never spray cleaner directly on the screen to prevent electric shock.

Normal Monitor Symptoms:

The guide also outlines normal operating characteristics that are not indicative of a fault:

  • Initial screen flicker due to fluorescent light, which usually disappears after turning the power switch off and on again.
  • Slightly uneven brightness depending on the desktop pattern.
  • Afterimages remaining after displaying the same image for hours; these will recover slowly or by turning off the power switch for several hours.
  • If the screen becomes black, flashes, or stops working, contact a service center and avoid self-repair.

VESA Wall Mount:

The monitor's detachable stand is specifically designed for VESA wall mounting (100 x 100 mm). To detach the arm/stand, users need to disconnect cables, place the monitor face down on a soft cloth, remove four screws from the arm, and then detach the arm/stand. It is recommended to use a UL Listed Wall Mount Bracket with a minimum weight/load of 28.8 kg and M4 x 10 mm screws.
