2.4 Starting up for the first time
1. Aftermakingalltheconnections,replacethesystemcasecover.
2. Ensurethatallswitchesareoff.
3. Connectthepowercordtothepowerconnectoratthebackofthesystemchassis.
4. Connect the power cord to a power outlet that is equipped with a surge protector.
5. Turn on the devices in the following order:
a. Monitor
 b. ExternalSCSIdevices(startingwiththelastdeviceonthechain)
 c. Systempower
6. Afterapplyingpower,thesystempowerLEDonthesystemfrontpanelcaselights
up.ForsystemswithATXpowersupplies,thesystemLEDlightsupwhenyoupress
theATXpowerbutton.Ifyourmonitorcomplieswiththegreenstandardsorifithasa
powerstandbyfeature,themonitorLEDmaylightuporchangefromorangetogreen
afterthesystemLEDturnson.
 Thesystemthenrunsthepower-onselftests(POST).Whilethetestsarerunning,the
BIOSbeeps(refertotheBIOSbeepcodestable)oradditionalmessagesmayappear
onthescreen.Ifyoudonotseeanythingwithin30secondsfromthetimeyouturned
onthepower,thesystemmayhavefailedapower-ontest.Checkthejumpersettings
and connections or call your retailer for assistance.

7. Holddownthe<Delete>keyduringpowerontoentertheBIOSSetup.Followthe
instructions in Chapter 3.
2.5 Turning off the computer
WhilethesystemisON,pressthepowerbuttonforlessthanfoursecondstoputthesystem
tosleepmodeorsoft-offmode,dependingontheBIOSsetting.Pressthepowerswitchfor
morethanfoursecondstoletthesystementerthesoft-offmoderegardlessoftheBIOS
setting.
