Variable Storage
Atari
BASIC keeps a list
of
the
variable names used in a
program
in its variable name table. A m
ax
imum
of
128 variable names can
be
stored in
the
variable
name
table.
Therefore,
an
Atari
BASIC
program
is
effectively
limited
to
a
maximum
of
128 variables.
These
include
numeric,
string, and array variables.
An
array
variable
name
counts
as
only
1 name in
the
variable
name
table
,
regardless
of
the
number
of
elements
within
that
array.
Every
time
a
new
variable
is
entered
in
the
imm
e
diate
mode,
that
name
is
added
to
the
variable
name
table. In
the
program
mode,
variables are
added
to
the
variable
name
table
as
they
are
encountered
in
the
program.
