5. CROSSOVER ADJUSTMENTS
Fortheampliertoperformbestwithyourspeakers,theelectroniccrossovercontrolsmust
besetandadjustedaccordingly.
5.1 SELECTING THE OPERATION MODE
Youmustselectandsettheappropriateoperationmodebeforeyoucanproceedto
adjustcrossoverfrequencypoints.Thisoperationmodedependsonthespeakersystem
connectedtotherespectiveamplierchannels.
➞SelectHIGHPASS,ifthespeakersystemisacomponent-,coaxial-ortriaxial-type.
➞SelectLOWPASSforasubwoofersystem.
➞SelectFLATIfyourspeakersystemwillhandleafullrangesignalwithoutelectricalor
mechanical overload.
5.2 HIGH PASS CROSSOVER FREQUENCY
Forsatellitespeakersystems,selectthe“HPF”mode,tocutoffthebasscontentinthe
music signal.
Highpasslteringwilltakeawayunnecessarymechanicalandelectrical‘strain’fromthe
connectedcoaxialorcomponentspeakersystems.Dependingonconesurface,voice-coil
diameterandthepowerhandlingofthespeakers,thefollowingrecommendationscanbe
issued:

5.3 LOW PASS CROSSOVER FREQUENCY
Select“LPF”,toactivatethelowpasslteroftheintegratedelectroniccrossover.
TheLOWPASScut-offfrequencysettingdependsonthewoofersystemandeachvehicleis
different!Asaruleofthumb,settingsinbetween60to90Hzwillusuallygivesolidresults.
Thewooferlowpassfrequencypointismostlyamatteroftaste,andmustthereforebe
‘playedbyear’.
5.4 SUBSONIC CROSSOVER FREQUENCY (A1300)
Nowproceedtoadjustthesubsonichighpassfrequency.Thissubsoniccrossoverfrequency
pointdependsonthesizeandthepowerhandlingoftheinstalledsubwoofersystem.The
higherthesubsoniccrossoverfrequencyisset,thebetterorhighermechanicalpower
handlingwillresult.Thetrade-offisreducedlowendextension!Thesubsonichighpass
cannotbebypassed.Butyoucansetthepotentiometertoavalueof10Hztomake
subsoniclteringcompletelyinaudible.
5.5 BASS BOOST (A1300)
DependingonthesizeandoutputcapacityofthesubwoofersystemdrivenbytheA1300
amplier,itmaybesonicallybenecialtosetthebassboostslideswitchintothe6dB
position,whichwillemphasizethe40Hzfrequencyrangeoutputformore„basspunch“.
Theemphasisat40Hzcausesa„fatter“bassresponse,whichoftencreatesthatextrabitof
fun,dependingonthemusicpreferences.Byemphasizingthe40Hzrange,theA1300will
alsolimitabitearlier,e.g.thedistortion-freeoutputisslightlyreduced.
5.6 INPUT GAIN
Toreachamaximumindynamicresponsefromeachindividualhead-unit/amplier/speaker
combination,itisimportanttosettherespectiveinputsensitivitycontrols(„GAIN“)ofall
channelpairscorrectly.
Beforeyoustart,youMUSTsetalltonecontrols(Bass,Mid,Treble,Loudnessetc.)andthe
fader on the head unit to their neutral or center positions.
Nowturnallinputgaincontrolsoftheinstalledampliersanti-clockwisetotheirminimum
positionsandstartwiththechannelpair,thatdrivesthesubwoofersystem.
SUBWOOFER CHANNEL(S)
Setthevolumecontrolofyourhead-unittoapproximately¾offullvolume,whileplayinga
dynamicpieceofmusic.Slowlyincreasetheinputgaincontrolofthechannelpairdriving
thesubwoofer(s),byturningtheGAINcontrolclockwise.Increaseclockwiseuntilthebass
startstodistort.Reducethemainvolumelevelofyourhead-unittoamediumlisteninglevel.
Proceedwithfurtherchannels,ifapplicable.
SATELLITE CHANNELS
Slowlyincreasetheinputgaincontrolofthechannelpairdrivingthesatellitesystem,by
turningtheGAINcontrolclockwise.Increaseclockwiseuntilyoureachagoodtonalbalance
withaslightemphasisofthebassrange.Repeatforallfurtherchannels.
FINE TUNING OF ALL CROSSOVER FREQUENCY POINT SETTINGS
Finallyyoucanattempttone-tunetheHP,andLPcrossoverfrequenciesonyouramplier
setup,toreachthemaximumtonalbalanceandchannelintegrationofallloudspeakers
connectedtoyourcaraudiosystem.
