Inspection & Maintenance
• Inspectthecoldwaterbasinregularly.Removetrashordebristhatmayhave
accumulatedinthebasinoronthestrainer.
• Quarterly,ormoreoftenifnecessary,drain,clean,andushtheentirecoldwater
basinwithfreshwater.Thiswillremovethesediment,whichcancollectinthe
basinduringoperation.Ifnotremoved,sedimentcanbecomecorrosiveandcause
deteriorationoftheprotectivenishofmetallicbasins.
– Whenushingthebasin,leavethestrainerinplacetopreventdebrisfromentering
thesystem.
– Removethestrainerafterthebasinhasbeenushed.
– Cleanandreplacethestrainerbeforerellingthebasinwithfreshwater.
• Adjusttheoattomaintainthedesignoperatinglevel.SeeTable 1 onpage 9.
Fan
TheSeries3000CoolingTowerusesanaxialfan.Thoroughlyinspectthefanfordamaged
ordeterioratedfanbladesandreplacethefanasrequired.
Inspection & Maintenance
• Iftheunitisalreadyinoperation,whilethefanisrunning,checkforanyunusual
noiseorvibration.
• Withthefanoffandthemotordisconnected,lockedout,andtaggedout,checkthe
generalconditionofthefan:
– Inspectforanylooseormissingboltsinthefanshaftbushing,thefanhub,andthe
fanshaftbearing(s).
– Checkthefanbladesforlooseness,rstbytwistingthebladebyhand,andthenby
movingthebladetipupanddown.Thereshouldbenoplayorslippage.
– Inspecteachbladeforexcessivescalebuild-upthatcouldcausevibration.
– Checkeachbladeforanycracks.Ifcracksarefound,thefanmotorshouldbe
lockedoutuntilthefanisreplaced.ContactyourlocalBACRepresentativefor
assistance.
– Whisper Quiet Fan Only:Thebladesshallbeinspectedatregularintervals,a
minimumofonceeverymonth,fordepositsanddamage.Depositsshallberemoved
usingbrushesand/orawaterjetwithamaximumwaterpressureof45psig(3bar).
– Whisper Quiet Fan Only:Toensureoptimalfunctioningandoperationalsafetyofthe
impeller,itisnecessarytoatleastonceayear:
– Checkthetighteningtorqueoftheboltconnections(refertoTable 2).
– Applyanewpaintcoatingifthepaintcoatingisdamagedorcorrodedawayto
preventcorrosion.Thepainttypeshallbeatleastequaltotheoriginalpaint.
– Replacecorrodedboltsandnuts.

ATTENTION: Neglected damaged
areas on the Whisper Quiet Fan can
result in the attack of the glass-
fiber layers (a process commonly
known as fiberbloom) because of
moisture entering through these
spots.
