Overview

The device described in the manual is a 10' Offset Umbrella, designed for providing shade and enhancing outdoor spaces. It is intended for easy operation and serves as a decorative element for patios, decks, or other outdoor areas.

Function Description

The primary function of this device is to provide shade from the sun. It features an offset design, meaning the main pole is positioned to the side rather than directly in the center of the canopy, which allows for more flexible placement and unobstructed space beneath the umbrella. The umbrella is equipped with a crank handle mechanism for opening and closing the canopy, making it easy to deploy or retract as needed. It also includes an extension arm and a vertical lift mechanism that allow for adjustment of the canopy's position and height, providing versatile shade coverage. The base of the umbrella is designed to be secured and/or weighted to ensure stability, preventing it from tipping over.

Usage Features

Assembly: The assembly process for the umbrella is straightforward, with an estimated time of 20 minutes. It requires an open-end or adjustable wrench (not included). The assembly involves:

  1. Base Assembly: Placing the upper cross leg (D) on top of the lower cross leg (C) to form the cross base.
  2. Holder Pole Attachment: Attaching the holder pole (F) to the assembled cross legs using hex bolts (GG) and flat washers (HH). These should be hand-tightened initially, then fully tightened once the pole is correctly positioned, being careful not to overtighten.
  3. Umbrella Frame Insertion: Inserting the main pole of the umbrella frame with the canopy (N) into the holder pole (F). The lower fixed stop pins on the umbrella frame should rest on top of the holder pole ring. Two control knobs are then tightened to secure the main pole in place.

Stability and Anchoring: For safe operation, the umbrella base must be secured and/or weighted. The manual strongly recommends using appropriate anchors to permanently attach the base to a wooden deck or concrete patio. Alternatively, patio stones or an offset umbrella base (sold separately) can be used to weigh down the cross leg base. A critical warning states that the base must be secured with at least 200 lbs. of weight to prevent tipping, suggesting either an umbrella base or four 12x12 patio pavers (sold separately).

Operation: Operating the umbrella involves several steps to extend, open, close, and retract it:

  1. Unfasten Storage Straps: Begin by unfastening any storage straps wrapped around the canopy.
  2. Extend Umbrella Arm: Unlock the extension arm clamp (K) and the vertical lift mechanism clamp (H). The umbrella extension arm is then extended outwards while simultaneously lifting the vertical lift mechanism upwards until the umbrella is fully extended.
  3. Lock Mechanisms: Once the umbrella arm is fully extended, both clamps (K and H) must be locked. A lock cover (G) is then slid into the locking mechanism on the back side of the vertical lift mechanism to secure it.
  4. Open Canopy: To open the canopy, the crank handle (J) is turned clockwise.
  5. Close Canopy: To close the canopy, the crank handle (J) is turned counter-clockwise.
  6. Lower Umbrella (Critical Step): Before lowering the umbrella, a critical step involves sliding back the lock cover (G) away from the vertical lift mechanism. Failure to do so will cause non-repairable damage to the locking parts (K and H).
  7. Retract Umbrella Arm: After sliding back the lock cover, unlock the extension arm clamp (K) and the vertical lift mechanism clamp (H). The umbrella extension arm is then retracted inwards while pushing the vertical lift mechanism downwards to fully take down the umbrella.

Safety Warnings: The manual emphasizes several safety warnings:

  • The umbrella is NOT recommended for use during periods of high wind and rain.
  • Users should always take the umbrella down during high or gusting wind and rain, when not in use, and in the off-season, to prevent personal injury and/or property damage.
  • Children should be kept away from the umbrella during assembly.
  • Placement of the umbrella over or near a swimming pool may cause premature fading, especially for darker colors, which is not covered under warranty.
  • To prevent canopy damage, the umbrella should NOT be left open directly facing the wind. It should always be taken down when not in use and during adverse weather conditions.

Maintenance Features

Canopy Care: Maintaining the umbrella's canopy is simple:

  • Clean the canopy with a soft brush and mild detergent.
  • DO NOT machine wash or dry the canopy.
  • DO NOT iron the canopy.
  • Thoroughly air dry the canopy before storing it for extended periods. Ensure the canopy is completely open during the drying process to prevent shrinkage.

Warranty and Replacement Parts: The product comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover damage due to neglect, abuse, or weather-related damage. Replacement parts are available, and customers can contact ATLeisure, LLC customer service for assistance. The manual provides a list of common replacement parts, including the holder pole, canopy, upper cross leg, lower cross leg, and hardware kit, along with their re-order numbers.

Customer Service: For assistance with assembly, parts, or customer service, ATLeisure, LLC can be contacted via a toll-free number or email during Eastern Standard Time business hours. The manual explicitly states, "DO NOT RETURN TO STORE," directing customers to contact the manufacturer directly for support.
