Overview

The Baxi Combi 80Eco is a gas-fired, room-sealed, powered flue combination boiler designed to provide both central heating for your home and mains-fed domestic hot water for taps and showers. It operates automatically and does not require a pilot light. This appliance is suitable for installation in Great Britain and Ireland, and must be installed by a CORGI Registered Installer or other registered competent person in accordance with all relevant regulations and codes of practice, including the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, Building Regulations, and Local Building Regulations. Any purpose-provided ventilation for the appliance should be checked periodically to ensure it remains free from obstruction.

Function Description

The boiler prioritizes domestic hot water. When a hot water tap is turned on, the supply of heat to the central heating circuit is temporarily interrupted to ensure hot water availability. The central heating hot water flow temperature can be adjusted between 30°C and 85°C. For domestic hot water, the temperature can be adjusted up to a maximum of 65°C. The domestic hot water temperature is also influenced by the water flow rate and the temperature of the incoming mains water. Slightly reducing the flow from a tap can increase the water temperature up to the maximum if desired. The boiler can operate with flow rates as low as 2.5 litres/minute while still recognizing the need to heat the water.

The Baxi Combi 80Eco is equipped with a safety thermostat, an additional safety device that shuts down the boiler if the system or the boiler itself overheats. If this device activates, the boiler will shut down and requires a Service Engineer to reset it, as the reset button is located inside the appliance and should not be attempted by the user. The cause of the safety thermostat's operation should also be determined by a Service Engineer.

Usage Features

To operate the boiler, first ensure that the electricity and gas supplies are turned on. Check the central heating pressure gauge, which should read between 0.5 and 1.0 bar when the system is cold and the boiler is not operating. During operation, the pressure should not exceed 2.5 bar and will typically be between 1.0 and 2.0 bar. A pressure of 3 bar or greater indicates a fault, and the safety pressure relief valve will operate. If the pressure falls below 0.5 bar, it may indicate a leak in the central heating system, requiring a Service Engineer to re-pressurize the system.

The On/Off/Reset selector switch allows you to control the boiler's mode. Turning the switch anti-clockwise from the '0' (Off) position to the first setting (Position i) enables both central heating and domestic hot water. In this position, the central heating operates according to demand, and domestic hot water is provided when a tap or shower is turned on, with priority given to hot water. Turning the switch clockwise from the '0' position to the second setting (Position ii) provides domestic hot water only when a tap or shower is turned on. In either operating position, the green "Power On" neon will illuminate. The orange "Burner On" neon will illuminate when the boiler is operating and the main burner is active.

The central heating temperature control knob allows you to adjust the central heating water flow temperature. Turning it clockwise increases the temperature. For normal winter usage, it is recommended to set the central heating temperature to maximum. Similarly, the hot water temperature control knob adjusts the domestic hot water temperature; turning it clockwise increases the temperature.

In the event of a flame failure, the red "Flame Failure" neon will illuminate, indicating that the burner failed to light or that incomplete lighting occurred. To reset this, turn the selector switch fully anti-clockwise against the spring pressure to the reset position (R) and then release it. Then, set the selector switch to the required operating position to relight the boiler. If the flame failure neon illuminates repeatedly, it indicates a fault, and your Service Engineer should be contacted.

To shut off the boiler for short periods, simply turn the selector switch to the '0' (Off) position. For longer periods, turn off the selector switch, electricity, and gas supplies. If your home will be unoccupied for extended periods during cold weather, the boiler and entire system should be drained unless equipped with frost protection. Your installer can provide advice on frost protection and system draining. When the selector switch is in the '0' (Off) position, the electrical supply to the boiler is isolated, and the boiler will not operate. If an integral timer is fitted, it will require resetting once the selector switch is moved to an operating position.

Maintenance Features

For safety and economy, your appliance should be serviced annually by a competent person. Your Installer or British Gas Service can provide advice on servicing. The painted panels of the boiler's outercase should be wiped with a damp cloth and then dried completely. Abrasive cleaning agents should not be used.

In case of a water or gas leak, or if one is suspected, the boiler can be isolated at the inlet valves. First, turn off the electrical supply and set the selector switch on the facia box to the 'OFF' position. Then, use a suitable open-ended spanner or screwdriver to turn the square on the gas tap to the left to isolate the gas supply at the boiler. The isolating valves, located under the boiler, can be closed by turning their taps to the right, towards the wall. After isolating the boiler, contact your Service Engineer as soon as possible.

The gas burning compartment of the boiler is completely sealed from the room. Combustion products are vented to the outside through the flue terminal, which must be kept free from obstruction to ensure correct operation. The boiler can be installed in a cupboard, provided the minimum clearances are maintained. The compartment should be large enough only for the boiler and ancillary equipment, and it should not be used as a storage cupboard.

Any repairs to the boiler during the 12-month guarantee period are typically the responsibility of the installer. After this period, spare parts can be obtained through approved Baxi stockists. When ordering spares, quote the appliance name, model number, and, if possible, the part number. The name, model number, and serial number can be found on a label on the inner face of the lower right-hand case panel.

Baxi UK Limited provides a 12-month guarantee on the boiler from the date of installation for the original user. Returning the reply-paid guarantee registration is encouraged to maximize the benefit of the guarantee. This does not affect your common law rights. Any component or part that becomes defective during the guarantee period due to faulty workmanship or material under normal use will be repaired or replaced free of charge.
