Overview

This document is an instruction manual for a Beko Chest Freezer, model CF4586W. It provides comprehensive guidance on the appliance's function, usage, and maintenance, ensuring safe and efficient operation.

Function Description

The Beko Chest Freezer is designed for the storage and freezing of edible foodstuffs. It utilizes an environmentally friendly R600a refrigerant in its cooling system and cyclopentane in its insulation. The freezer's primary function is to maintain a low temperature to preserve frozen food and to rapidly freeze fresh food for long-term storage.

The appliance features a thermostat knob for temperature adjustment, with "MAX" indicating the lowest temperature setting. The internal temperature can vary based on ambient conditions, frequency of lid opening, and the amount of food stored. For optimal performance, it is recommended to check the temperature with an accurate thermometer.

Indicator lights are provided on the back of the freezer for easy visibility. A green LED indicates that the appliance is supplied with electric energy. A red LED illuminates if the freezer's temperature is too high, signaling a potential defect if it remains on after the initial 45-minute startup period. An orange LED indicates that the "fast freeze" function is activated, engaged by setting the thermostat knob to the Superfreeze position. This mode is designed for rapid freezing of fresh food.

Usage Features

Starting the Freezer: Before initial use, ensure the interior is dry and air circulates freely at the rear. The interior should be cleaned as recommended in the "Cleaning and Care" section. After plugging in and switching on the electricity supply, the green light will glow, and the compressor will start. A noise from the compressor and the refrigeration system is normal. If storing already frozen food, wait until the freezer reaches the correct temperature before loading. For freezing fresh food, turn the knob to the Superfreeze position for at least three hours before adding food. Do not load the appliance immediately after switching on; allow it to reach the desired storage temperature first.

Storing Frozen Food: Commercially frozen food should be stored according to the manufacturer's instructions for a **** freezer compartment. To maintain quality, place packets in the freezer as quickly as possible after purchase and adhere to "Use By" or "Best Before" dates. All food, especially acidic or salted items, should be completely sealed in appropriate wrapping materials or containers to prevent leaks, which can corrode metal surfaces, warp plastic surfaces, and lead to hygiene issues.

Freezing Fresh Food: To freeze fresh food, place it near the side walls for fast freezing, away from already frozen items. Activate the Superfreeze function by turning the knob to the Superfrost position, which will illuminate the orange lamp. Wait 24 hours before placing fresh food in the freezer. After freezing, return the knob to its previous position. Avoid freezing large quantities at once to ensure rapid freezing, which preserves food quality. Special care should be taken not to mix already frozen food with fresh food.

Important Notes for Usage: In case of a power failure, avoid opening the lid. Frozen food should remain unaffected for up to 30 hours. If the failure is longer, food should be checked and consumed or cooked and refrozen. If the lid is difficult to open immediately after closing, this is due to pressure difference, which will equalize in a few minutes. The appliance should not be stacked with other appliances, nor should anyone sit or stand on it. The mains cable must not be caught or damaged during transport or movement.

Maintenance Features

Defrosting: Defrost the freezer twice a year or when a frost layer of approximately 7 mm (1/4") has formed. To begin, turn the thermostat knob to zero or switch off the freezer at the socket and unplug it. All food should be wrapped in newspaper and stored in a cool place. Remove the freezer basket and leave the lid open. Containers of warm water can be placed inside to speed up defrosting. Do not use sharp objects, hairdryers, or electrical heaters for defrosting. After defrosting, sponge out any water and thoroughly dry the interior. Switch on the Fast Freeze function for about three hours after defrosting.

Cleaning and Care: Always switch off and unplug the freezer before cleaning. Avoid using sharp abrasive instruments, soap, household cleaners, detergents, or wax polish. Clean the cabinet with lukewarm water and wipe dry. For the interior, use a damp cloth wrung out in a solution of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to one pint of water, then wipe dry. Regularly remove excess ice with a plastic ice scraper to prevent large accumulations that impair performance. If the freezer will not be used for a long time, switch it off, remove all food, clean it, and leave the lid ajar. Dust on the condenser, located at the back of the freezer, should be removed annually with a vacuum cleaner. Regularly check lid seals to ensure they are clean and free from food particles.

Do's and Don'ts for Maintenance and Usage:

  • Do defrost food thoroughly in a fridge or microwave.
  • Do ensure the chest freezer lid is completely closed after each use.
  • Do defrost frozen meat completely before cooking.
  • Do close the lid gently.
  • Do check freezer contents regularly.
  • Do clean and defrost the freezer regularly.
  • Do keep food for the shortest possible time and adhere to "Best Before" and "Use By" dates.
  • Do store commercially frozen food according to package instructions.
  • Do choose high-quality fresh food and clean it thoroughly before freezing.
  • Do prepare fresh food in small portions for rapid freezing.
  • Do wrap all foods in aluminum foil or freezer-quality plastic bags, ensuring air is excluded.
  • Do wrap frozen food when purchased and put it in the freezer as soon as possible.
  • Do store small items in the provided basket.
  • Do remove ice cream from the freezer 10-20 minutes before serving.
  • Don't leave the lid open for long periods, as this increases running costs and ice formation.
  • Don't use pointed sharp-edged objects (knives, forks) to remove ice.
  • Don't put hot food directly into the freezer; let it cool down first.
  • Don't put liquid-filled bottles or sealed carbonated cans into the freezer, as they may burst.
  • Don't store poisonous or dangerous substances; the freezer is for edible foodstuffs only.
  • Don't exceed the maximum freezing capacity (8 kg in any 24 hours) when freezing fresh food.
  • Don't consume ice cream and water ices directly from the freezer to avoid 'freezer burns' on lips.
  • Don't freeze fizzy drinks.
  • Don't try to keep thawed frozen food; it should be eaten within 24 hours or cooked and refrozen.
  • Don't remove items from the freezer with wet hands.
  • Don't shut the lid with force, as this can damage the appliance.

The side walls of the product are equipped with refrigerant pipes, which may become hot during operation. This is normal and does not require servicing.
