Usage Features
Starting and Adjusting Cooking:
To start cooking, touch the ON/OFF key. All indicators will show "–" to indicate standby mode. Place a suitable pan on the desired cooking zone, ensuring the pan bottom is clean and dry. Select the heating zone, and the indicator will flash "5" (default power level). Adjust the heat setting using the "–" or "+" keys. If no heat setting is chosen within 1 minute, the cooktop will automatically switch off. Heat settings can be modified at any time during cooking.
Heat Settings:
The cooktop offers 9 heat settings, each suitable for different cooking tasks:
- 1-2: Delicate warming, melting chocolate/butter, gentle simmering, slow warming.
- 3-4: Reheating, rapid simmering, cooking rice.
- 5-6: Pancakes.
- 7-8: Sautéing, cooking pasta.
- 9: Stir-frying, searing, bringing soup to the boil, boiling water.
Locking Controls (Child Lock):
To prevent unintended use, the controls can be locked by touching the lock key. The timer indicator will show "Lo". In lock mode, all controls except the ON/OFF key are disabled. To unlock, touch and hold the lock key for 5 seconds. The cooktop can still be turned off in an emergency using the ON/OFF key, but unlocking is required for further operation.
Timer Function:
The timer can be used in two ways:
- Minute Minder: Set a countdown timer (up to 99 minutes) without affecting cooking zones. The timer will sound for 30 seconds when expired.
- Cut-off Timer: Set a timer for one or more cooking zones to automatically switch them off after the set time. A red dot in the bottom right corner of the power level indicator shows the timer is set for that zone.
Cooking Guidelines:
- General Tips: Reduce power setting when food boils, use lids to retain heat and save energy, minimize liquid/fat for faster cooking, start on high and reduce heat once food is hot.
- Simmering/Cooking Rice: Simmering occurs around 85°C. Some tasks may require a higher setting than the lowest for proper cooking.
- Searing Steak: Allow meat to reach room temperature. Heat a heavy-based frying pan, brush steak with oil, add a small amount of oil to the pan, and cook. Turn only once. Cooking time varies by thickness (2-8 minutes per side). Rest steak before serving.
- Stir-frying: Use a ceramic-compatible flat-based wok or large frying pan. Prepare ingredients in advance. Preheat pan, add oil. Cook meat first, set aside. Stir-fry vegetables until hot and crisp, then return meat and add sauce. Stir gently and serve immediately.
Residual Heat Warning:
After use, if a cooking zone is still hot, an "H" will appear on the display to warn against touching it. This also serves as an energy-saving function, indicating a hotplate that can be used to heat further pans.
Auto Shutdown:
As a safety feature, the cooktop will automatically shut down if a cooking zone is left on for an extended period. Default shutdown times vary by power level (e.g., 8 hours for power levels 1-3, 2 hours for power levels 7-9).
Maintenance Features
Care and Cleaning:
- Everyday Soiling (fingerprints, marks, non-sugary spills): Switch off the cooktop. Apply a cooktop cleaner while the glass is still warm (not hot). Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Switch the cooktop back on.
- Boil-overs, Melts, Hot Sugary Spills: Immediately remove these with a fish slice, palette knife, or razor blade scraper suitable for ceramic glass cooktops. Caution: Surfaces may be hot. Switch off power at the wall. Hold the blade at a 30° angle and scrape the spill to a cool area. Clean up with a dishcloth or paper towel, then follow steps for everyday soiling.
- Spillovers on Touch Controls: Switch off the cooktop. Soak up the spill. Wipe the touch control area with a clean damp sponge or cloth. Wipe completely dry with a paper towel. Switch the cooktop back on. Note: Liquid on controls may cause beeping or malfunction.
Important Cleaning Notes:
- Even when "hot surface" indication is off, the cooking zone may still be hot. Exercise extreme care.
- Avoid heavy-duty scourers, some nylon scourers, and harsh/abrasive cleaning agents as they can scratch the glass. Always check cleaner labels for suitability.
- Never leave cleaning residue on the cooktop, as it may stain the glass.
- Remove sugary spills as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage to the glass surface.
- Razor-sharp blades on scrapers require extreme caution and should be stored safely out of reach of children.
- A steam cleaner is not to be used.
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:
- Cooktop cannot be turned on: Check power supply, ensure it's switched on, and verify for power outages. If issues persist, contact service.
- Unresponsive touch controls: Unlock controls (if locked), ensure the touch control area is dry, and use the ball of your finger.
- Glass being scratched: Use cookware with flat, smooth bases. Do not slide cookware. Avoid unsuitable, abrasive scourers or cleaning products.
