Overview

The Bennett Read Superchef 10+ is a versatile 10-in-1 intelligent multi-cooker designed for massive volume cooking, offering a wide range of functions to simplify meal preparation. This appliance combines the capabilities of several kitchen devices into one compact unit, making it suitable for various cooking styles from pressure cooking to slow cooking and even making yogurt.

Function Description

The Superchef 10+ operates primarily as an electric pressure cooker, utilizing pressure to cook food quickly and efficiently. It features a control panel with an LED display that shows the cooking time and pressure level in psi. The device includes a pressure regulator that can be set to "STEAM" for quick release venting or "PRESSURE" for pressure cooking. This allows users to control the release of steam and pressure, offering both quick and natural release methods.

Beyond pressure cooking, the Superchef 10+ offers a variety of pre-programmed 1-touch settings, including:

  • Rice: For perfectly cooked rice.
  • Multigrain: To prepare various types of grains.
  • Porridge: For creamy breakfast porridges.
  • Steam: To steam vegetables, fish, and other foods.
  • Sauté: For browning ingredients before cooking or for stir-frying.
  • Soup: To prepare hearty soups and broths.
  • Meat/Stew: For tenderizing meats and cooking stews.
  • Bean/Mince: For cooking beans and minced dishes.
  • Poultry: Specifically designed for cooking chicken and other poultry.
  • Yoghurt: To make homemade yogurt, with options for pasteurizing milk and fermenting.
  • Slow Cook: For long, low-temperature cooking, ideal for tenderizing less-expensive cuts of meat and preparing casseroles.
  • Egg Maker: For boiling eggs to various consistencies (soft, medium, hard).
  • Keep Warm: To maintain food at a warm temperature after cooking.

The appliance also features a Delay Timer, allowing users to set a delayed start time of up to 24 hours in half-hour increments. This is particularly useful for meal planning, ensuring food is ready when needed. An Adjust Button provides flexibility to modify pressure levels (Low/High) or temperatures (Low/Mid/High) depending on the selected cooking setting.

Usage Features

Operating the Superchef 10+ involves a straightforward process. To begin, users place the removable pot into the cooker body and add food and liquids, ensuring not to overfill (maximum 2/3 full, or 1/2 full for expanding foods like rice or dried vegetables). The lid is then placed and locked into position by turning it anticlockwise until the "lock" triangle aligns with the ALIGN notch. A safety lock pin ensures the cooker will not pressurize until the lid is properly closed and locked.

Once the lid is secured and the pressure regulator is set to "PRESSURE" for pressure cooking functions, the appliance is plugged in. Users can select one of the preset cooking options or manually set a cooking time using the "Pressure Time +" or "Pressure Time –" buttons. The "Adjust" button allows for further customization of pressure or temperature. The cooker automatically starts after 5 seconds of setting the parameters.

During pressure cooking, the cooker will beep when sufficient heat and pressure are reached, and the timer will begin counting down. The pressure light will blink, and the pressure reading will be displayed. Once cooking is complete, the cooker will beep again. Users can choose to release pressure naturally or use the quick release method by turning the pressure regulator to "STEAM." Caution is advised when releasing steam due to the high temperature.

For specific functions like Slow Cooking, the pressure regulator should be set to "Steam," and the "Slow Cook" button pressed. The temperature can then be adjusted to "Low," "Mid," or "High." The Sauté function does not use pressure and does not require the lid, but users are warned not to leave the appliance unattended to prevent burning. The Sterilizing function is useful for baby bottles and pacifiers, using steam at a high-pressure setting.

The Yoghurt function involves two main steps: pasteurizing milk and fermenting. Milk can be pasteurized by boiling it in the pot or steaming it in jars. After cooling, a starter culture is added, and the mixture is fermented using the "Yoghurt" setting, with adjustable fermentation times. The Egg Maker function allows for boiling eggs to different consistencies based on preset times and pressure levels.

The appliance also includes a drip cup to collect condensation, which should be attached to the side of the outer body.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the Superchef 10+. Before cleaning, the appliance must always be unplugged and allowed to cool down completely. The outer body should be wiped with a damp, soft cloth or sponge; immersion in water or any other liquid is strictly prohibited.

The removable pot should be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge, avoiding abrasive scourers to protect the non-stick coating. It is not dishwasher safe. The inner side of the lid also requires cleaning with a soft, damp cloth.

The drip cup should be removed by gently pulling it outwards, cleaned with warm soapy water, rinsed, dried, and then pushed back into place.

The pressure regulator can be pulled out for cleaning. Any food or dirt should be removed, and it should be replaced by aligning the dots on the regulator with the housing and pushing down firmly.

The lid seal ring and steam plate, located on the underside of the lid, are crucial for proper sealing. They can be removed for cleaning with warm soapy water. After cleaning, they must be thoroughly dried and correctly reassembled. The lid seal ring should be placed around the edge of the steam plate and turned to secure it evenly, while the steam plate aligns with the middle support pin on the underside of the lid and is pressed down. It's important to ensure the gap between the lid seal ring and the perimeter of the lid is even and that it can turn freely.

For storage, all parts must be dry. The appliance should be stored in its box in a clean, dry place, and the power cord should not be wrapped around it.

The Superchef 10+ also features a built-in memory, which allows it to resume the last pre-programmed cooking cycle if power is interrupted, adding a layer of convenience and reliability.
