The Bennett Read Superchef 6 is a 10-in-1 intelligent multi-cooker designed for versatile and convenient home cooking. This appliance combines multiple cooking functions into a single unit, making it a valuable addition to any kitchen.
The Superchef 6 operates primarily as a pressure cooker, offering a range of pre-programmed 1-touch settings for various dishes. These settings include Rice, Soup/Stew, Fish/Vegetable, Meat/Poultry, Bean/Mince, Porridge, Slow Cook, Yoghurt, Egg Maker, Sauté/Sterilize, Multigrain, and Steam. Each pre-programmed function has a default cooking time and temperature, which can often be adjusted to suit individual preferences.
The pressure cooking function significantly reduces cooking times while preserving nutrients and flavors. The appliance features a pressure limiting safety valve that can be set to "SEALED" for pressure cooking or "EXHAUST" for releasing pressure. The float valve acts as a safety indicator, rising when sufficient pressure is built and dropping when pressure is released, ensuring the lid cannot be opened prematurely.
Beyond pressure cooking, the Superchef 6 offers a "Slow Cook" function for long, low-temperature cooking, ideal for tenderizing meats and preparing hearty stews and casseroles. The "Yoghurt" setting allows for homemade yoghurt preparation, with options to pasteurize milk and ferment the yoghurt. The "Egg Maker" function is specifically designed for boiling eggs, with adjustable times for soft, medium, or hard-boiled results.
The "Sauté" function enables browning of foods without pressure, requiring the lid to be off for monitoring. This is useful for building flavor before pressure cooking. The "Sterilize" function provides a convenient way to sterilize items like utensils, baby equipment, and canning jars, using either pressure or steam sterilization depending on the valve position. Finally, the "Steam" function allows for steaming food, requiring a steam rack and liquid in the inner pot.
The multi-cooker also includes a "Keep Warm" mode, which automatically activates after a cooking cycle or can be manually selected, to keep food at serving temperature for up to 12 hours. A "Delay Start" function allows users to program cooking to begin up to 24 hours later in 30-minute increments, offering flexibility for meal planning. The appliance also boasts a built-in memory feature, which resumes the last pre-programmed cooking cycle in case of a power interruption.
Operating the Superchef 6 involves a straightforward process. First, the appliance should be placed on a dry, flat surface, and the water collector attached. The removable inner pot is then filled with ingredients, wiped clean, and placed back into the cooker. The lid is secured by turning it clockwise until it locks, and the pressure limiting safety valve is set to "SEALED."
After plugging in the appliance, the LED screen displays "00:00" in standby mode. Users select their desired pre-programmed 1-touch setting, which illuminates the corresponding indicator light and displays a default cooking time and pressure level (Low, Mid, or High). The cooking time can be adjusted using the "+/-" buttons, and the pressure level can be changed with the "PRESSURE" button. Pressing the "START" button initiates the cooking cycle. During heating, the first two digits on the LED screen flash until sufficient pressure is reached and the float valve rises, at which point the cooking time countdown begins.
Once cooking is complete, the cooker transitions to "Warm" mode, indicated by three beeps and "bb" on the display. To release pressure, the pressure limiting safety valve is turned to "EXHAUST." For foods with high liquid content, natural release or covering the cooker with a wet towel is recommended to prevent hot liquid from spraying. The lid can only be opened safely once the float valve has dropped.
The control panel is intuitive, featuring dedicated buttons for each cooking function and clear indicators for pressure levels (Low, Mid, High), delay time, and warm mode. The LED display provides real-time information on cooking progress and settings.
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the Superchef 6. Before cleaning, the appliance must always be unplugged and allowed to cool completely. The outer body should be wiped with a damp, soft cloth or sponge, avoiding immersion in water or spraying with liquids.
The water collector is easily removed by pulling it outwards, then cleaned with warm soapy water, rinsed, and dried before being reinserted. The removable inner pot, with its non-stick coating, should be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft sponge, never abrasive scourers or a dishwasher.
The lid components require particular attention. The lid seal ring and steam plate can be removed for thorough cleaning. To do this, the lid is turned upside down, and the steam plate is gently detached, followed by the lid seal ring. After cleaning with warm soapy water and ensuring they are completely dry, they are reassembled by aligning the steam plate with the middle support pin on the underside of the lid and pressing it down, then securing the lid seal ring evenly around its edge. It's crucial to ensure the steam plate is not installed upside down.
The blockage-proof cover, located on the underside of the lid, can also be removed by pulling it outwards for cleaning. The float valve should be moved up and down gently and its seal ring rinsed with water. The pressure limiting safety valve body needs to be lifted and cleaned with water, and a steel needle or wire (less than 3mm in diameter) can be used to clear any deposits from the vent pipe. Care must be taken not to damage the vent pipe's finish. When reinstalling the pressure limiting safety valve, it should be pressed down firmly.
For storage, all parts must be dry. The appliance should not be stored wet or dirty and should be kept in its original box in a clean, dry place. The power cord should never be wrapped around the appliance. Regular checks of the lid seal ring, float valve, and pressure limiting safety valve for blockages or damage are essential for safe and efficient operation. In case of technical problems or persistent issues, the appliance should be returned to an authorized service facility.
