Usage Features
Installation:
- Location: Units are intended for indoor use only. A sturdy, level location capable of supporting at least 1500 pounds is required. Ensure maximum loading and good air circulation around the unit.
- Inside Cabinet: Avoid blocking the evaporator coil at the top rear of the unit to ensure proper airflow. The shelves are designed to prevent items from touching the far rear of the cabinet.
- Outside Cabinet: Maintain at least 2 inches of clearance from any wall and 12 inches of clear space above the unit to ensure proper air circulation and prevent overheating.
- Leveling: The unit must be level for proper door alignment and function. Adjustable bullet feet or casters are provided for leveling.
- Stabilizing: All models with casters should be stabilized in a stable condition with the front wheels locked. If the unit needs to be moved or tilted for any reason, allow at least 24 hours before starting up the compressor to allow oil to flow back into place.
- Electrical Connection: Refer to the amperage data on page 3 and local electrical codes. The unit must be connected to a proper power source. The unit must be turned OFF and disconnected from the power source when performing service, maintenance, or cleaning.
Operation (Solid-State Thermostat):
The units feature a Dixell solid-state thermostat with an on/off switch located on the front bottom panel.
- LED Functions:
- On (Compressor enabled)
- Flashing (Anti short cycle delay enabled)
- On (Defrost in progress)
- Flashing (Dripping in progress)
- On (Fans output enabled)
- Flashing (Fans delay after defrost)
- On (Measurement unit)
- Flashing (Programming mode)
- Set Point:
- To view: Push and release the SET key.
- To change: Push SET key for 2 seconds, use arrows to adjust, and push SET key again or wait 10s to memorize.
- Manual Defrost: Push the DEF key for 2 seconds.
- Keyboard Lock/Unlock: Press and hold the up and down arrows for 3 seconds. "OF" indicates locked, "on" indicates unlocked.
- Refrigerated Cycle: The evaporator fans run continuously unless one or more doors are open. The lamp switch activates the lights when opened. A defrost cycle occurs every 6 hours, indicated by a defrost symbol. The unit will turn on again after the cabinet temperature reaches 53°F or 30 minutes of defrost.
- Anticondensation Heaters: These are on door frames and work in conjunction with the compressor.
- Factory Setting: The factory temperature setting for the refrigerator range is 34°F to 38°F.
Alarm Signalling:
- Probe Alarms ("P1", "P2"): Indicate room or evaporator probe failure. Check connections.
- Temperature Alarms ("HA", "LA"): Indicate maximum or minimum temperature alarm.
- External Alarms ("EA", "CA"): Indicate external or serious external alarm. "CA" turns off all outputs.
- Door Open Alarm ("dA"): Compressor and fans restart.
Troubleshooting:
The manual provides a table for common issues, probable causes, and actions:
- Compressor is Not Running: Fuse blown, power cord unplugged.
- Cabinet Temperature is too Warm: Thermostat set too high, airflow blocked, low refrigerant levels.
- Interior Light is Not Working: Door slightly ajar, poor switch connection, bulb not connected, bulb burned out.
- Condensation is Collecting: Gasket not sealing properly.
Maintenance Features
Safety First:
- Always turn OFF and disconnect the unit from the power source before performing any service, maintenance, or cleaning.
- Never use abrasive cleaners, high-pressure water washes, or acid-based cleaning solutions.
- Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors near the appliance.
- Ensure proper grounding and use a dedicated electrical outlet.
Cleaning:
- Interior and Exterior: Clean with soap and warm water. For stubborn dirt, use ammonia and water or a nonabrasive liquid cleaner. Rub with the "grain" of the stainless steel to avoid marring.
- Condenser Coil: Requires regular cleaning every 90 days, or every 30 days if heavy debris/grease accumulates. Use a simple brush, vacuum, or compressed air for light dust. For heavy grease, use de-greasing agents and compressed air. Failure to maintain a clean condenser coil can lead to compressor failures and void warranties.
- Gasket Maintenance: Regularly clean gaskets with warm soapy water to maintain elasticity and prevent mildew buildup. Inspect for tears or cracks and replace if necessary.
- Drain Maintenance: Regularly check and clean the condensate evaporator drain tube to prevent blockages and overflow.
Stainless Steel Care:
Stainless steel contains iron (70-80%) and chromium (12-30%). The chromium forms a passive film that protects against corrosion. To prevent rust and discoloration:
- Avoid breaking the passive film.
- Clean regularly with appropriate cleaners.
- Avoid chlorides, which can damage the protective film.
- Address small pits and cracks promptly.
Refrigerant Disposal:
Old refrigerants may contain "Ozone Depleting" chemicals. Disposal must be done by a qualified service technician in compliance with environmental regulations.
Warranty:
Berg Refrigeration offers a 2-year parts and labor limited warranty and a 3-year additional compressor part warranty for specific models (GA0010, STH23BRG, GA0011, STH49BRG, GA0012, STH23BFG, GA0013, STH49BFG).
