If the Emergency/Remote Shutdown Valve on your Betts Control Unit doesn't shut down the loading/unloading outlets, here are some things to check: * Ensure the plumbing is correct, based on the cargo tank's air system design. * Make sure the exhaust port of the Emergency/Remote Shutdown Valve isn't blocked. * Confirm the airline to the valve is receiving air pressure; if not, resolve the air feed issue. * Inspect the airline from the valve for damage, blockages, or pinches; replace if necessary. * Verify the Master Control Valve on the Air Panel is working correctly; resolve any issues with it. * If none of the above steps work, review the troubleshooting guide and replace or rebuild the Emergency/Remote Shutdown Valve.

Why is there product of cargo tank leaking from exhaust port (liquid/fumes) in my Betts Control Unit?
    • K
      Krystal JimenezAug 28, 2025
If you see liquid or fumes leaking from the exhaust port of your Betts Control Unit, it indicates that the cargo tank, piping, or air system may contain flammable product. This situation poses risks of fire, explosion, asphyxiation, or other serious hazards, suggesting a possible seal failure in one of the Emergency Valves or Air Manifold. You should investigate and repair the problematic component of the Emergency Valve or Air Manifold. Flush and dry all airlines. The Emergency/Remote Shutdown Valve should be taken apart, cleaned and O-rings (3) replaced prior to placing back in service.

If the detent on your Betts Control Unit isn't providing a positive “click-in” feel, it's likely that the detent O-ring (4) is worn. Replace it with a new detent O-ring (4). Keep in mind that this O-ring is a split polyurethane O-ring.

If you notice air leaking from the valve of your Betts Control Unit, consider these potential causes: * Swollen O-rings (3): Investigate the reason for the swelling, avoiding incompatible airline additives. The product may be leaking into the airline from one of the Emergency Valves or Air Manifold. * Damaged O-rings (3): Determine why the O-rings (3) are damaged. Remove any burrs or sharp edges inside the bore before replacing them. * Damaged or dirty bore of control block (1): Clean and inspect the bore; replace the entire valve if damaged. * Scratched or dirty O-ring grooves on piston (2): Clean and inspect the piston (2); replace it if damaged. * Partially pulled-out bushing (5): Remove and discard the bushing (5), then replace it. * Flange nut (7) not tightened: Apply th...

If the valve on your Betts Control Unit is stuck or hard to move, it might be due to: * Corrosion: Check for corrosion on the bushing (5) or control block (1). Avoid harsh cleaning solutions and incompatible airline additives. Replace the bushing (5). If the control block (1) bore is corroded, replace the entire valve. * Damaged piston (2): Replace the piston (2), and inspect the bushing (5) and control block (1) for damage. * Swollen O-rings (3): Determine the cause of swelling, avoiding incompatible airline additives.
