Spring Loaded Wire Spinning Pliers
T
his wire spinning pliers has been designed to twist two wires, e.g. as used in locked screws. The
pliers allow an easy and even twisting and guarantee precise screw retention.
General Example
For a wire lock, screw heads have to come with a cross hole. This
cross hole accepts the locking wire which prevents the screw from
getting loose. A screw that is locked like that might loosen up a little
but will never fully unscrew.
Take a string of locking wire and push it through the cross hole. Only
use locking wire to make sure that the wire is suitable for your
application.
If possible try not to lock screws with a clearance of more than 150
mm against each other.
Spin the wire around the screw head so that both ends touch each
other.
Load both ends into the pliers and start twisting them.
Note: Wires with a diameter of 1 mm should not be twisted more
than 7-10 times for each 25.4 mm in length.
Make sure that the wire wraps tightly around the neck of the screw.
Push one end of the twisted wires through the cross hole of the
second screw head.
Take the other end of the wire and wrap it around the second screw
and under the first end of the wire, coming out of the cross hole.
Doing this prevents riding up.
When working on right hand threads:
Go from the right hand side of the first screw to the left hand side of
the second screw to prevent slackening of the screws.
Repeat the above mentioned steps for each screw.
Twist the excessive wires after the last screw and bend it sideways
to prevent injuries.
Manual
Slide both ends of the wire into the pliers’ jaw and press the pliers
until they click into place.
Hold the pliers at the rear, knurled cap and pull it. The wires will be
tensioned and twisted via the pliers’ spring loaded twisting
mechanism.
Note: The pliers have to be able to spin freely.
