Do you have a question about the BIEMMEDUE EC 55 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes a range of air heaters, specifically the EC 55, EC 55 DV, EC 85, EC 85 DV, GE 65, GE 65 DV, GE 105, and GE 105 DV models. These devices are designed to generate hot air, primarily using diesel fuel as a combustible.

Function Description

The air heaters operate by burning diesel fuel to produce hot air. There are two main types:

  • Direct combustion heaters: These devices release both hot air and combustion products directly into the environment.
  • Indirect combustion heaters: These models are equipped with a flue connection to vent combustion products through a chimney, thus releasing only hot air into the environment.

The heaters are controlled by an electronic system that manages ignition, shutdown, and safety interventions in case of malfunctions. This system includes a photocell for flame control and an overheat thermostat for maximum safety.

Usage Features

General Recommendations:

  • Ensure the heater is placed on a flat, stable surface to prevent overturning or fuel spillage.
  • Maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from flammable materials.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the operating area, especially for direct combustion models.
  • For indirect combustion models, connect to a chimney for exhaust and to an electrical panel.
  • Do not obstruct air intake or outlet ducts.
  • Use kerosene in the fuel tank if ambient temperatures are very low.
  • Always check the fan's free rotation before plugging in and unplug after use.

Safety Devices:

  • The electronic control unit manages start-up, shutdown, and safety interventions.
  • A reset button (13) indicates operational status with different colors:
    • Off: Machine in pause or standby.
    • Solid green: Regular operation.
    • Solid red: Safety lockout.
    • Flashing orange: Operation suspended due to excessive voltage variations (T<175V or T>265V); resumes automatically when voltage returns to 190-250V.
  • In case of safety lockout, press the reset button (13) for 3 seconds to restart.
  • Warning: Never perform more than two consecutive restarts, as unburnt diesel may accumulate and ignite suddenly.
  • If lockout persists, identify and eliminate the cause. Pressing button (13) for 5 seconds initiates a self-diagnosis program, indicated by different flashing patterns:
    • Flashing orange: False flame detected during start-up.
    • Flashing red: No flame detected during start-up.
    • Flashing red/green: No flame detected during operation.
    • Solid orange: Internal electronic error.

Starting Up:

  • Verify that the electrical network characteristics match the identification plate.
  • For "DV" models, ensure the voltage selection switch (18) is set to the desired voltage (110V or 240V).
  • The air diffusion cone (19) must be mounted on the front of the machine for proper operation.
  • The heater can operate manually (switch 14 to ON) or automatically (with a thermostat or timer connected to socket 15).
  • After the start-up cycle, the reset button (13) flashes red briefly to confirm completion.
  • If the heater does not start after initial use or fuel circuit emptying, check fuel level and press reset button (13).

Stopping:

  • Set the main switch (14) to "0" or adjust the control device to the lowest setting.
  • The flame extinguishes, and the fan continues for approximately 90 seconds to cool the combustion chamber.
  • Warning: Never stop the machine by unplugging it, as this may cause overheating.

Transport and Handling:

  • Before moving, stop the heater, disconnect power, and allow it to cool.
  • Ensure the fuel tank cap is securely attached.
  • Warning: Fuel may leak during transport as the tank cap is not sealed to allow air intake during operation.
  • Heaters can be mobile (with wheels) or suspended (mounted on a support structure). For mobile versions, use the handle; for suspended versions, use a lift truck or similar equipment, ensuring secure fastening.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

  • Periodically clean the combustion chamber, burner, and fan for regular operation.
  • Warning: Before any maintenance, stop the heater, disconnect power, and allow it to cool.

Every 50 hours of operation:

  • Disassemble, remove, and clean the filter cartridge with clean diesel fuel.
  • Disassemble the external cylindrical fairing and clean the inside and the fan blades.
  • Check the condition of high-voltage leads and connections to the electrodes.
  • Disassemble the burner, clean all its parts, clean the electrodes, and set the gap to 2-3 mm as specified in the "SETTING THE ELECTRODES" diagram.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a detailed troubleshooting guide with problems, causes, and remedies, covering issues such as:

  • Fan not starting/no ignition.
  • Fan stopping during start-up or operation.
  • Fan starting with smoke.
  • Heater not stopping.
  • Remedies include checking electrical connections, replacing components (photocell, motor, condenser, ignitor, control box, solenoid valve), cleaning parts (burner disc, oil filter, electrodes), and verifying fuel quality and pressure.
  • If issues persist, contact an authorized service center.
