The BISSELL® CrossWave® HF3 Cordless Multi-Surface Hard Floor Cleaner, Model 3598F, is a versatile cleaning appliance designed for household use on sealed hard floors. It combines the functions of a vacuum and a wet mop, allowing users to clean various hard floor surfaces efficiently. The cordless design offers freedom of movement without being tethered to a power outlet, enhancing convenience during cleaning tasks.
Function Description
The CrossWave HF3 operates by simultaneously vacuuming dry debris and washing floors with a cleaning solution. It features a dual-tank system that keeps clean water and formula separate from dirty water, ensuring that only fresh solution is applied to the floors. The machine is equipped with a motorized brush roll that scrubs surfaces to loosen dirt and grime, which is then suctioned into the dirty water tank.
Users can select between two cleaning modes: LO Mode and HI Mode, indicated by a blue light on the user interface. LO Mode is suitable for everyday cleaning and lighter messes, while HI Mode provides a more powerful clean for tougher stains and heavily soiled areas. The machine automatically dispenses the cleaning solution as it moves forward and backward, simplifying the cleaning process.
A key feature of this cleaner is its self-cleaning cycle. After use, the machine can be placed on its docking station, and with the press of a button, it initiates a cycle to clean the brush roll and internal pathways. This helps to prevent odors and maintain the machine's performance.
The device is powered by a rechargeable battery, and its battery level is indicated on the user interface. It is designed to be charged on its docking station, with clear visual cues for low battery, charging mode, and full charge.
Usage Features
To begin cleaning, the handle must be firmly inserted into the body of the machine until it clicks. The battery should be fully charged before the first use, which typically takes about 4 hours. The charging adapter plugs into the docking station, which then connects to a wall outlet.
Before cleaning, the clean water tank needs to be filled. This involves pressing a release button, lifting a flap, and adding warm tap water (up to 140°F/60°C max) to the indicated fill line. BISSELL cleaning formula, specifically designed for upright carpet cleaners and hard floor sanitizing, is then added to its designated fill line. It is crucial to use only genuine BISSELL formulas to avoid damaging the machine and voiding the warranty. The filled tank is then reinserted until it clicks into place.
Once the machine is reclined, the power button can be activated. The user can then select the desired cleaning mode (LO or HI) using the mode button. The machine dispenses solution automatically as it is pushed forward and pulled backward across the floor. During operation, a dirty water tank indicator will flash red when the tank is full or removed, signaling that it needs to be emptied.
For sanitizing hard nonporous floors, a specific Hard Floor Sanitise formula is used. The process involves removing visible soil first, then allowing the floor to remain visibly wet with the formula for five minutes (which may require additional passes in HI mode), and finally extracting the formula with forward and backward passes in HI mode.
The self-cleaning cycle is initiated by placing the machine on the docking station, ensuring the clean water tank has formula and the dirty water tank is empty. Pressing the self-cleaning button starts the cycle, with a pulsing light indicating its operation.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the CrossWave HF3. After each use, especially after the self-cleaning cycle, the brush roll should be removed to dry.
The dirty water tank needs to be emptied and rinsed. This involves pressing a button on top of the tank, grabbing the front handle, and pulling the tank out. The top of the tank, which contains a filter, is then removed. A clean-out brush is provided to strain debris from the dirty water while pouring the liquid into a utility sink. The debris should be disposed of in the trash, and the tank rinsed.
The pleated filter, located at the top of the dirty water tank, should be pulled up and washed with warm water and mild detergent. The bottom of the tank cover also needs rinsing. It is critical that the filter is completely dry before reinstallation.
The brush roll cover is removable, allowing access to the brush roll itself. The main brush roll and a smaller brush roll filter (behind the main brush roll) can be pulled out using their respective tabs. These parts, along with the brush roll window, should be hand-washed using the provided cleaning tool to scrub away debris. The cleaning tool also has a hook to remove entangled hair and other objects from the brush roll.
After cleaning, all parts should be left out to air dry for 24 hours before reassembling. Reassembly involves placing the end of the brush roll into the left side of the foot, pressing the brush tab down to lock it, reinstalling the brush roll window until it clicks, reassembling the dirty water tank (ensuring the filter is completely dry), and finally inserting the dirty water tank back into the machine.
The machine should be stored in a protected, dry area, away from freezing temperatures, as freezing can damage internal components and void the warranty. Troubleshooting tips are provided in the manual for common issues such as the machine not working, reduced suction, abnormal motor noise, charging problems, and issues with the dirty water tank or brush roll. For any servicing beyond basic maintenance, an authorized service representative should be contacted.
