This document is a user guide for the BISSELL SpotClean portable carpet cleaner, model 36984. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring users can effectively clean spots and stains from carpets and upholstery.
The BISSELL SpotClean is designed as a portable carpet cleaning machine, specializing in the removal of spots, stains, and small high-traffic areas from carpets and upholstery. Its compact design and specialized tools make it suitable for targeted cleaning tasks, offering a convenient solution for unexpected messes. The device operates on a 220-240 Volt A.C. 50-60 Hz power supply, making it suitable for household use in regions with this electrical standard.
Important Safety Instructions:
The manual begins with critical safety warnings to ensure safe operation. Users are advised that the appliance can be used by children aged 8 and above, as well as persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, provided they are supervised or instructed on safe use and understand the hazards. Children should be supervised to prevent them from playing with the appliance. It is crucial to unplug the unit from the electrical socket when not in use, before cleaning, maintaining, or servicing. The appliance should not be immersed in water or liquid, and hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all body parts must be kept away from openings and moving parts. If the supply cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards. The appliance should not be run over the cable, used with a damaged cable or plug, or pulled/carried by the cable. The cable should be kept away from heated surfaces. For models with hand-held accessories like pet brushes or motor-driven heads, users should avoid entrapment.
Additional warnings include not leaving the appliance plugged in when unattended, and only using it on surfaces moistened by the cleaning process. Only BISSELL cleaning products intended for this machine should be used, and only the specified type and amount of liquids should be used. The appliance is designed for use on carpet moistened by the cleaning process, and liquid should not be directed towards electrical components. It must always be connected to a properly earthed electrical socket, and the earthed plug should not be modified. The float must always be installed before any wet pick-up operation. To unplug, users should grasp the plug, not the cable, and avoid handling the plug or appliance with wet hands. All controls must be turned OFF before unplugging. A caution notes that the handle contains electrical connections and is not a serviceable part. Plastic film can be dangerous and should be kept away from children to avoid suffocation. The appliance should only be used as described in the user guide and with manufacturer-recommended attachments. If the appliance malfunctions, is dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, it should not be operated but repaired at an authorized service center. No objects should be put into openings, and openings should be kept free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow. Extra care is advised when cleaning on stairs. The appliance should not be used to pick up flammable or combustible liquids (e.g., petroleum) or in areas where such substances may be present. Toxic materials (e.g., chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner) should not be picked up. The appliance should not be used in enclosed spaces filled with vapors from oil-based paint, paint thinner, moth-proofing substances, flammable dust, or other explosive/toxic vapors. Hard or sharp objects (e.g., glass, nails, screws, coins) should not be picked up, nor should burning or smoking items (e.g., cigarettes, matches, hot ashes). The appliance is for indoor use only.
The manual also highlights that the appliance should be kept on a level surface. To prevent leaking, the unit should not be stored where freezing may occur, as this can damage internal components.
