Overview

The BISSELL ReadyClean Powerbrush Plus (16W5 Series) is a deep cleaner designed for household use, offering comprehensive floor care and cleaning capabilities. It is engineered to clean carpets, stairs, upholstery, and hard floors, providing a high-tech home cleaning system.

Function Description:

The ReadyClean Powerbrush Plus is a versatile deep cleaner that uses a combination of water and specialized BISSELL cleaning formulas to penetrate and lift dirt from various surfaces. Its primary function is to deep clean carpets and rugs, but it also features attachments for cleaning upholstery, stairs, and hard floors. The machine operates by spraying a cleaning solution onto the surface, agitating the fibers with a rotating brush (DirtLifter PowerBrush), and then suctioning up the dirty water into a separate collection tank. This process effectively removes embedded dirt, stains, and allergens, leaving surfaces cleaner and refreshed. The device is designed for ease of use, with features like a Quick Release Cord Wrap and a ReadyTools dial for switching between cleaning modes.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Series: 16W5 Series
  • Power: Operates on a nominal 120-volt circuit and requires a grounded outlet.
  • Cleaning Formulas: Exclusively uses BISSELL 2X formulas (e.g., 2X Fiber Cleansing, 2X Pet Stain and Odor Removal, 2X Allergen Cleansing, 2X Professional Deep Cleaning, 2X Spring Breeze, 2X Lavender Essence, 2X Natural Orange, 2X Hard Floor Solutions) to prevent internal component damage and maintain warranty validity.
  • Brush System: Features a DirtLifter PowerBrush for effective agitation and cleaning of carpet fibers.
  • Tanks: Includes a solution tank for clean water and formula, and a collection tank for dirty water.
  • Attachments: Comes with a Tough Stain Tool, and select models may include a Powered TurboBrush® Hand Tool, 4" Upholstery Tool, 6" Stair Tool, Spraying Crevice Tool, Deep Reach Pet Tool, and a Hard Floor Tool.
  • Hose: Equipped with a flex hose for use with attachments.
  • Safety: Designed with a 3-prong grounded plug and requires proper grounding to reduce the risk of electrical shock.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Quick and easy assembly requiring only a Phillips head screwdriver. Involves sliding the upper body onto the lower body, securing with screws, attaching the hose wrap, sliding the upper handle, placing the solution tank, wrapping the power cord and flex hose, securing the flex hose, and attaching a tool to the hose.
  • Pre-Cleaning: Recommended to vacuum carpets thoroughly and pre-treat stubborn stains with BISSELL Tough Stain Precleaner for optimal results.
  • Tank Filling: The solution tank is filled with hot (not boiling) tap water to the "WATER" line and BISSELL 2X Formula to the "FORMULA" line.
  • Carpet Cleaning:
    • Set the ReadyTools dial to "FLOOR CLEANING."
    • Plug in and turn on the power switch.
    • Recline the handle using the recline lever.
    • Perform slow forward and backward wet passes while pressing the trigger, followed by dry passes without the trigger to suction up dirty water.
    • Caution against overwetting carpets.
  • Attachment Cleaning:
    • Set the ReadyTools dial to "TOOLS."
    • Attach the desired cleaning tool to the end of the hose.
    • Press the trigger to spray solution and move the tool over the soiled surface, then release the trigger to suction dirty water.
    • Important to check upholstery tags for cleaning compatibility ("W" or "WS" codes) and colorfastness before use. Avoid use on velvet or silk, or fabrics coded "X" or "S."
    • For hard floor cleaning, the BISSELL hard floor tool (203-5639) must be used with BISSELL 2X Hard Floor Solutions cleaning fluid.
  • Deep Reach Tool (Select Models): Designed for targeted stain removal. Place the tool on the stain, spray solution, and move it back and forth to clean and suction.
  • Emptying Collection Tank: The collection tank should be emptied when dirty water reaches the full line or the solution tank is empty. This involves releasing latches, lifting the tank top, and pouring out contents.
  • Storage: The machine should be stored upright in a protected, dry area. The solution tank can be stored with cleaning solution for the next task, but the collection tank must always be emptied and rinsed.

Maintenance Features:

  • Collection Tank: Rinse thoroughly after each use. The ReadyTools dial can be rotated halfway between "TOOLS" and "FLOOR CLEANING" to access and remove a knob for rinsing.
  • Tank Vent & Foam Filter: Remove and rinse after use.
  • Nozzle Window: Clean by lifting the latch, removing the nozzle from the machine, and rinsing under running water. Recommended to clean after each use for best results.
  • Red Gasket: Remove lint and hair from the red gasket in the base of the unit (do not remove the gasket itself).
  • Hose Cleaning: Suction clean water from a bowl to rinse out the hose, then lift and stretch the hose to clear all water.
  • Brush Belt Replacement:
    • Turn off and unplug the machine.
    • Remove solution and collection tanks.
    • Lie the machine down to access the bottom.
    • Unscrew and remove the belt cover.
    • Remove the brush end cap and belt from the brush.
    • Remove the brush.
    • Slide the belt off the motor pulley.
    • Clean or replace the belt, then reattach to the motor pulley and brush.
    • Insert the brush into the right side end cap, reattach the left end cap, and slide the brush back into place.
    • Replace the belt cover and screw.
    • Manually rotate the brush to ensure free rotation and proper belt alignment.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as reduced spray, no spray, or failure to pick up cleaning solution, often involving refilling tanks, cleaning nozzles, checking tank alignment, or clearing debris.
  • Warranty: Comes with a limited one-year warranty covering defective or malfunctioning parts, provided the product is used for personal, non-commercial service and in accordance with the user's guide. Routine maintenance components like filters, belts, or brushes are not covered.
  • Customer Support: BISSELL Consumer Services are available via phone, website, or mail for assistance with repairs, replacement parts, warranty questions, and product registration.
