Why is my Bissell SMARTCLEAN 2268 Vacuum Cleaner not picking up dirt?
    • D
Dr. Brandon Mcgee MDJul 28, 2025
If your Bissell Vacuum Cleaner isn't picking up dirt, several factors could be at play. Start by checking if the Dirt Tank is properly seated; press the Tank Release Button to release it and then align it correctly. Also, ensure the hose is correctly connected by pushing the hose connector into the port on the canister until it clicks. If the hose is connected, inspect it for cracks or holes. If you find any damage, you'll need to order a new hose from BISSELL.com. Dirty filters or a dirty Multi-Cyclonic system can also cause this issue. Remove and wash the filters, letting them dry for a full 24 hours before reinstalling, or remove the separator from the Dirt Tank and rinse it clean, ensuring it also dries for 24 hours before reassembly. Finally, there may be a clog in the vacuum.

If dirt is escaping from your Bissell Vacuum Cleaner, the Dirt Tank might be full; empty it. Also, check the filters in the tank and under the filter door at the back of the canister to ensure they are installed and clean.

Why does my Bissell SMARTCLEAN 2268 Vacuum Cleaner make a high-pitched noise?
    • J
      Jessica MasseyAug 20, 2025
A high-pitched noise or whistling sound in your Bissell Vacuum Cleaner can indicate a clog. You should power OFF and unplug the vacuum. Disconnect the hose from the canister to check for clogs or debris. It may also indicate a clog in the pleated filter. Remove the pleated filter from the back of the vacuum and rinse it clean, then let it dry for 24 hours before reinstalling.
