The BLACK+DECKER BEH200 Impact drill is a versatile power tool designed for consumer use, suitable for drilling in wood, metal, plastics, and masonry, as well as for screwdriving purposes.
Function Description:
The BEH200 operates as an impact drill, capable of both rotary drilling and impact drilling, making it suitable for a wide range of materials. It features a variable speed switch (1) that allows the user to control the tool's speed based on the pressure applied, with lower speeds recommended for large diameter drill bits and higher speeds for smaller ones. For continuous operation, a lock-on button (2) is provided, which can be engaged at full speed in both forward and reverse modes. The forward/reverse switch (3) allows for easy selection of rotation direction, essential for drilling and tightening/loosening screws. A drilling mode selector (4) enables switching between impact drilling (T position) for masonry and concrete, and rotary drilling (position) for steel, wood, plastics, or screwdriving. The chuck (5) securely holds drill bits, and a side handle (6) provides additional control and stability during operation.

Usage Features:
- Assembly: Before assembly, ensure the tool is switched off and unplugged. The side handle (6) can be slid onto the front of the tool and tightened by turning the grip clockwise. A depth stop (not supplied) can be inserted into the mounting hole and adjusted by slackening the side handle, setting the desired depth, and then tightening the handle.
- Fitting a Drill Bit: Open the chuck by turning the front part with one hand while holding the rear part with the other. Insert the bit shaft into the chuck and firmly tighten it.
- Operation:
- Variable Speed: The variable speed switch (1) allows for precise speed control.
- Continuous Operation: The lock-on button (2) enables continuous operation at full speed in both forward and reverse modes. To switch off, press the variable speed switch again.
- Direction of Rotation: The forward/reverse switch (3) is used to select clockwise (forward) rotation for drilling and tightening screws, or counter-clockwise (reverse) rotation for loosening screws or removing jammed drill bits. Never change direction while the motor is running.
- Drilling Mode Selection: The drilling mode selector (4) is set to 'T' for impact drilling in masonry and concrete, and to the 'drill bit' symbol for rotary drilling in steel, wood, plastics, or for screwdriving.
- Safety Precautions:
- Always wear eye protection and ear protectors when impact drilling.
- Use auxiliary handles supplied with the tool.
- Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when cutting accessories may contact hidden wiring.
- Never use a chisel accessory in rotary mode.
- Use clamps or another practical way to secure the workpiece.
- Check for wiring and pipes before drilling into walls, floors, or ceilings.
- Avoid touching hot drill bits after drilling.
- Use a face or dust mask when operations produce dust or flying particles.
- Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source or changing accessories.
- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
- Keep proper footing and balance, and do not overreach.
- Dress properly: avoid loose clothing, jewelry, and keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
- If dust extraction/collection facilities are provided, ensure they are connected and properly used.
- Do not force the power tool; use the correct tool for the application.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
- Disconnect the plug before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool.
- Store idle power tools out of reach of children.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres.
- Keep children and bystanders away.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
- Do not abuse the cord; keep it away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.
- Use an outdoor-suitable extension cord when operating outdoors.
- If operating in damp locations, use an RCD-protected supply.
- Stay alert and use common sense; do not operate while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
Maintenance Features:
- General Maintenance: The tool is designed for long-term operation with minimum maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends on proper tool care and regular cleaning.
- Before Maintenance: Always switch off and unplug the appliance/tool before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning:
- Regularly clean the ventilation slots using a soft brush or dry cloth.
- Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth; do not use abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.
- Regularly open the chuck and tap it to remove any dust from the interior.
- Cutting Tools: Keep cutting tools sharp and clean for better control and reduced binding.
- Repairs: If the power tool is damaged, have it repaired by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts to ensure safety.
- Mains Plug Replacement (U.K. & Ireland only): If a new mains plug is needed, safely dispose of the old plug. Connect the brown lead to the live terminal and the blue lead to the neutral terminal. No connection should be made to the earth terminal. Follow fitting instructions supplied with good quality plugs.
