Overview

This document provides operating instructions for Blaupunkt radio/cassette car audio systems, including models such as Augsburg C30, Boston C30, Dublin C30, Minnesota DJ30, Montreux C30, and Ontario DJ30. It covers various functions, usage features, and maintenance aspects to help users operate their car audio system optimally.

Function Description

The Blaupunkt car audio system is a versatile unit that combines radio and cassette playback capabilities, with support for an external CD changer. It features an RDS (Radio Data System) radio receiver, which enhances the listening experience by displaying station names and program types (PTY). The system includes special RDS functions like AF (Alternate Frequency) and REG (Regional) to improve reception and prevent tuning into alternative frequencies with different programming.

For radio operation, the system supports FM, MW, and LW wavebands, with multiple memory banks for storing up to five stations per bank. Users can tune into stations through automatic seek tuning or manual selection. The TravelStore function allows for automatic storage of the five strongest FM stations in the current reception area. The PTY function enables selection of radio stations based on program type, such as Culture, Sport, Rock, Travel, News, Classics, Jazz, or Pop. The HICUT function automatically cuts treble and noise to improve reception when interference occurs.

The cassette deck supports standard cassette playback with autoreverse, fast forward, and rewind functions. It can also integrate with traffic information priority during cassette playback, interrupting the music for announcements.

The system is designed to work with a Blaupunkt CD changer (e.g., CDC A 06, CDC A 08, CDC A 072, IDC A 09), allowing users to play multiple CDs. CD changer functions include selecting CDs and tracks, repeating individual tracks or entire CDs, playing tracks in random order (MIX), and scanning all tracks on all CDs (SCAN). The display mode for the CD changer can be switched between track/CD number and track number/elapsed playing time.

An AUX input is available for connecting external audio sources like portable CD players, MiniDisc players, or MP3 players, expanding the system's versatility.

The car audio system also features a clock with 12/24-hour display modes and the option to display the time even when the system is switched off. Basic audio adjustments include bass, treble, balance, and fader controls. The Loudness function boosts bass and treble at low volumes for a more natural sound, with adjustable intensity.

Traffic information priority can be activated to ensure users receive traffic announcements, interrupting other audio sources if necessary. The volume for traffic announcements is also adjustable.

Usage Features

Switching On/Off and Volume Control: The system can be switched on/off by pressing the ON button (4). If connected to the vehicle ignition, it can also switch on/off with the ignition. For models with a removable front panel (Boston C30, Dublin C30, Montreux C30, Ontario DJ30), removing the panel switches the system off, and replacing it switches it back on with the last settings. Inserting a cassette tape when the system is off will also switch it on and start playback. Volume is controlled by the volume knob (3), adjustable from 0 to 66. The power-on volume can be set in the menu, with a warning about potential loud volumes if set to maximum.

Mute and Beep Tone: The mute function can be activated briefly by pressing button (4), and the mute level is adjustable in the menu. The system automatically mutes during telephone operation if connected to a mobile phone. A beep tone confirms key presses longer than two seconds, and this function can be switched on or off in the menu.

Radio Operation: To switch to radio mode, press CD-C (12) repeatedly until "RADIO" appears. FM memory levels are selected using FMT or FM (2), while MW and LW wavebands are selected with M•L (6) (not available on Augsburg C30 and Minnesota DJ30). Seek tuning sensitivity can be adjusted to tune into strong or weaker signals. Radio stations can be stored manually by pressing and holding station preset buttons (1-5) (16). The PTY language (German, English, French) can also be selected.

Cassette Deck Operation: Insert a cassette with the open side facing right. To switch cassette sides, press FR (9) and FF (10) simultaneously. Fast forward (FF (10)) and rewind (FR (9)) are available, with playback resuming normally when stopped. Cassettes are ejected by pressing button (7).

CD Changer Operation: To switch to CD changer mode, press CD-C (12) repeatedly until "CHANGER" appears. CDs are selected using the cursor buttons (14), and tracks are selected using the same buttons. Audible fast forward/reverse (CUE/REVIEW) is activated by pressing and holding the cursor buttons (14). Repeat functions for tracks or entire CDs are activated by pressing 3 (RPT) (16). Random play (MIX) for the current CD or all CDs is activated by pressing 4 (MIX) (16). Scanning all tracks on all CDs is initiated by pressing 5 (SCAN) (16), and the scan time is adjustable in the menu. Playback can be paused by pressing 2 (II) (16).

Clock and Display: The clock can be displayed briefly by pressing and holding MENU (0) (15). The time is set in the menu, and the 12/24-hour display mode can be selected. The clock can be activated to display when the car audio system is switched off but the ignition is on. The display of variable text from RDS signals can also be toggled.

Audio Adjustments: Bass and treble are adjusted using the AUDIO button (13) and cursor buttons (14). Balance and fader are adjusted using the GEO button (11) and cursor buttons (14). Loudness is activated by pressing AUDIO (LD) (13) for more than two seconds, and its intensity is set in the menu.

Maintenance Features

Theft Protection System: The car audio system is equipped with a removable front panel (release panel) for theft protection (Boston C30, Dublin C30, Montreux C30, Ontario DJ30). Removing the panel switches the system off, but all settings remain stored. The panel should be stored in the supplied case and protected from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Additionally, the system has a four-digit code number that must be entered if the unit is disconnected from its power supply. This code inquiry can be activated or deactivated in the menu. The code LED (4) can be activated to flash when the system is off, providing a visible deterrent.

General Care: The manual emphasizes the importance of traffic safety, advising users not to operate the system unless traffic conditions permit and to ensure they can always hear external warning signals. It recommends selecting a moderate volume while driving.

Installation: For self-installation or adding components, users are directed to read the detailed installation and connection instructions at the end of the manual.

Accessories and Guarantee: Only Blaupunkt-approved accessories should be used. The manual mentions optional remote control units (RC 08) and compatible amplifiers. Information on connecting CD changers is provided, noting that some models (Minnesota DJ30, Ontario DJ30) come with a CDC A 08 CD changer. The guarantee scope is determined by local laws, with Blaupunkt offering a 12-month guarantee. The cash register receipt serves as a valid guarantee coupon.

Support: International telephone and fax numbers are provided on the last page for any questions or additional information regarding the equipment's operation.
