Section 5 TROUBLESHOOTING
MECHANICAL
SYMPTOM CAUSE
1. Erratic motion or exaggerated stroke - Slipping V-belt
- Motor improperly wired
- Motor voltage incorrect
- Motor RPM incorrect
- Drive pulley incorrect
- Insufficient clearance
- Hanger loading unequal
2. Excess vibration of support - Support not properly braced
- Support points not strong enough
- Hangers not loaded equally
- Insufficient clearance
3. Excessive current draw - Belt is too tight
- Motor is faulty
- Screen is heavily loaded and/or
is plugging up inside
- Infeed or discharge points are
choked and are restricting the
motion of the screen
- Drive unit bearing is failing
4. Short belt life - Belt is not aligned
- Motor axis is not vertical
- Pulley grooves are worn
- Poor quality belts
- Improper belt tension
- Dusty environment
5. Short hanger life - Insufficient lubrication
- Hanger loading not equal
- Poor quality U-joints
