This document describes the Bosch GCL 2-50 C and GCL 2-50 CG Professional point and line lasers, designed for determining and checking horizontal and vertical lines as well as plumb points. The device is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and is classified as a consumer laser product according to EN 50689.

Function Description:

The measuring tool projects a horizontal and a vertical laser line forward, as well as one vertical laser point upwards and one downwards. The laser lines cross at a 90° angle. It can also operate in horizontal line mode (projecting a horizontal laser line forward) or vertical line mode (projecting a vertical laser line forward). In point mode, it projects only the vertical laser points. All operating modes, except point operation, can be selected with either automatic levelling or pendulum lock.

The device features a pendulum unit that automatically levels irregularities within a self-levelling range of ±4°. If automatic levelling is not possible (e.g., due to the surface deviating more than 4° from horizontal), the laser beams will flash quickly. The pendulum lock allows for manual operation on sloped surfaces, where the laser lines are not automatically levelled or necessarily perpendicular to each other.

The GCL 2-50 C/CG is equipped with a Bluetooth® module, enabling remote control via a smartphone. Bosch applications (apps) are available for download from respective app stores. The Bluetooth® connection indicator (9) lights up when a connection is established and flashes if interrupted.

Important Technical Specifications:

The GCL 2-50 C and GCL 2-50 CG models share many specifications, with the primary difference being the laser line color. The GCL 2-50 C uses a red laser line (630–650 nm), while the GCL 2-50 CG uses a green laser line (500–540 nm). Both models have a laser class of 2.

Usage Features:

Power On/Off: The measuring tool is switched on by sliding the on/off switch (2) to the "On" position (for pendulum lock or automatic levelling). Laser beams are emitted immediately. To switch off, slide the switch to "Off".
Automatic Shut-Off: The device automatically switches off after approximately 120 minutes of inactivity to preserve battery life. This function can be temporarily deactivated by holding the laser mode button (8) for at least 3 seconds.
Operating Mode Selection: Users can switch between cross-line and point mode, horizontal line mode, vertical line mode, and point mode using the laser operating mode button (8).
Working with RM 2 Rotating Mount: The rotating mount (23) allows the measuring tool to rotate 360° around a central plumb point, enabling precise alignment of laser lines without changing the tool's position. A fine adjustment screw (24) is available for vertical laser line alignment. The mount can be used freestanding, screwed to a vertical surface, attached to metal ceiling strips with a ceiling clip (25), or magnetically attached to metal surfaces (21).
Battery Charge Indicator: An LED indicator (4) displays the battery charge state: green (100–75%), yellow (75–35%), red flashing (<35%), or no light (defective/drained).
Remote Control via Bluetooth®: The measuring tool can be controlled remotely via a smartphone using the Bosch app.
Laser Receiver (Accessory): For improved visibility in bright conditions or over long distances, a laser receiver (29) can be used. Receiver mode is activated by pressing the receiver mode button (6).
Laser Viewing Glasses (Accessory): These glasses (30) filter ambient light to make the laser beam appear brighter, but they do not protect against laser radiation or UV light.
Laser Target Plate (Accessory): The target plate (31) enhances laser beam visibility in unfavorable conditions and over greater distances.

Maintenance Features:

Cleaning: The measuring tool should always be kept clean. Do not immerse it in water or other liquids. Wipe off dirt with a damp, soft cloth. Do not use detergents or solvents. Regularly clean the areas around the laser beam outlet aperture (3) and check for lint.
Accuracy Check: Regular accuracy checks are recommended, especially after strong external impacts or temperature fluctuations. The manual provides detailed procedures for checking the height accuracy of the horizontal line, the level accuracy of the horizontal line, the level accuracy of the vertical line, and plumb accuracy. If the tool exceeds the maximum permissible deviation during any check, it should be repaired by a Bosch after-sales service.
Battery Handling: Remove batteries from the measuring tool if it will not be used for a prolonged period to prevent corrosion and self-discharge. Always replace all batteries simultaneously with batteries of the same manufacturer and capacity. Only use chargers recommended by the manufacturer. Protect batteries from heat, direct sunlight, fire, dirt, water, and moisture to prevent explosion and short-circuiting.
