The Bosch AdvancedChain 36V-35-40 is a cordless chain saw designed for sawing trees and tree trunks near the ground, capable of making cuts with or across the grain. It is not intended for sawing mineral materials or for felling trees.
The chain saw operates with a 36V battery and features an automatic chain oiler to ensure optimal lubrication during use. The saw chain is automatically lubricated via an oil outlet (7) during operation. The device incorporates a kickback brake (5), a safety mechanism activated by the wrist through the front hand guard (5) when kickback occurs, which immediately stops the chain to reduce the risk of injury. The chain saw is equipped with a lock-off button (20) for the On/Off switch (2) to prevent unintentional starting. The battery charge-control indicator (23) provides feedback on the battery's status.
Before starting, users must ensure the battery (21) is fully charged and properly inserted. The chain saw is not supplied with oil and must be filled with biodegradable chain oil (according to RAL-UZ 48) before use. The oil level can be checked through the oil tank opening (25). Operating the chain saw without chain oil or when the oil level is below the minimum mark will result in damage.
To start the machine, first push the lock-off button (20) and then press and hold the On/Off switch (2). The hand guard/activation lever for the kickback brake (5) must be moved from its forward position towards the front handle (4) to deactivate the kickback brake before the chain saw will start. Once the machine is running, the lock-off button can be released. To switch off, release the On/Off switch (2). It is recommended to periodically test the kickback brake function by pushing the activation lever (5) forward during operation. The chain guard (18) should be removed before use and reattached for transport or storage.
When operating, always hold the chain saw firmly with both hands, with thumbs and fingers encircling the handles, and maintain proper footing and balance. Avoid overreaching and do not cut above shoulder height to prevent unintended tip contact and maintain control. Extreme caution is advised when cutting brush and saplings, as slender material can catch the saw chain and cause it to whip towards the operator or pull them off balance. The chain saw should only be operated on fixed, secure, and level surfaces. When cutting a limb under tension, be alert for spring back, which can cause the limb to strike the operator or throw the chain saw out of control.
Regular maintenance is crucial for safe and efficient operation. Before any maintenance, adjustments, or cleaning, the battery must be removed from the power tool to prevent accidental starting. The chain tension should be checked regularly during use, as improper tension can lead to chain breakage, kickback, and injury. New chains can lengthen considerably upon initial operation. Avoid tensioning a hot chain, as it will become overtensioned when it cools down.
To mount and tension the saw chain (13), slide it into the slot around the chain bar (12), ensuring the correct running direction by comparing it with the rotation symbol (11). Fit the chain links around the drive sprocket (3) and mount the chain bar (12) onto the fastening bolt (9). Rotate the affixed tensioning wheel (14) clockwise until the chain is partly tensioned. Attach the cover (17) and rotate the clamping knob (16) clockwise to secure it. Then, turn the chain-tensioning ring (15) clockwise until the chain is correctly tensioned, allowing it to be raised approximately 6-7 mm from the chain bar in the center when lifted with one hand. Once tension is correct, firmly secure the clamping knob (16). If the chain is too tight, loosen the clamping knob (16) and re-tension. The clamping system's locking mechanism prevents the chain from loosening.
The chain and chain bar should be cleaned before storing the product for extended periods to prevent seizing. Remove the SDS cover (17), chain bar (12), and saw chain (13) and clean them with a brush to remove oil, sap, and dust, especially from the saw blade groove. Debris from the oil outlet (7) and drive sprocket (3) should be carefully removed with a clean cloth to prevent blockages. The oil reservoir should be emptied before storage and refilled before use.
The saw chain can become blunt and should be replaced with a Bosch saw chain accessory or professionally resharpened. The chain bar (12) can be mounted upside down to extend its life or replaced if worn. To do this, loosen the screw between the chain bar (12) and the affixed tensioning wheel (14). After flipping or replacing the chain bar, reattach the tensioning wheel (14), tightening it by hand until slight resistance is felt, then performing an additional 1/8 turn for proper fastening. Overtightening can pinch the chain bar and restrict the saw chain's path.
The battery's venting slots should be occasionally cleaned with a soft, clean, and dry brush. Store the product and battery within a temperature range of -20 °C and 50 °C, avoiding extreme temperatures like those in a car in summer.
