Overview

This document describes the Bosch FFL020M... Microwave Oven, a free-standing appliance designed for household use and similar applications, such as employee kitchens in shops, offices, and other commercial sectors, agriculture, hotels, other residential facilities, and bed and breakfasts. It is suitable for use up to an altitude of 4000 m above sea level. This appliance complies with EN 55011 and CISPR 11 standards, classifying it as a group 2, class B product, meaning it produces microwaves for heating food and is suitable for private households.

Function Description:

The microwave oven is primarily used for preparing meals and drinks. It offers various microwave power settings for different tasks:

  • 90 W: Defrost delicate foods.
  • 180 W: Defrost food and continue cooking.
  • 360 W: Cook meat and fish or heat delicate foods.
  • 600 W: Heat and cook food.
  • 800 W: Heat liquids.

The control panel consists of a function selector to choose the microwave power setting and a time switch to set the cooking duration in minutes. The appliance operates with a turntable to ensure even heating.

Important Technical Specifications:

The manual does not provide explicit technical specifications such as dimensions, weight, or power consumption in watts, beyond the microwave power settings. However, it implies a standard domestic electrical connection with earthing. The appliance is designed to operate on alternating current.

Usage Features:

  • Intended Use: The appliance is intended for preparing meals and drinks under supervision. It should not be used with an external timer or separate remote control, nor should it be installed behind a decorative door or in a fitted unit.
  • User Group: It can be used by children aged 8 or over and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental abilities, or inadequate experience, provided they are supervised and instructed on safe use. Children under 15 must be supervised for cleaning and maintenance, and children under 8 must be kept away from the appliance and power cable.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Fire Risk: Never store combustible objects in the cooking compartment. If smoke is emitted, switch off the appliance or pull the plug and keep the door closed to stifle flames. Remove food residues before use. Do not install behind decorative doors or in fitted units. Avoid drying food or clothing, heating slippers, grain/cereal-filled pillows, sponges, or damp cleaning cloths. Do not heat food in heat-retaining packaging or unattended in plastic, paper, or other combustible materials. Do not set microwave power too high or cooking time too long, especially for low-water-content foods. Never heat cooking oil alone.
    • Burn Risk: Accessories and cookware become very hot; always use oven gloves. Accessible parts become hot during operation; never touch them and keep children at a safe distance. Open the door carefully to avoid hot steam. Never pour water into a hot cooking compartment.
    • Injury Risk: Scratched glass on the door can crack; do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers. Keep hands away from door hinges. Handle the glass turntable with care to prevent cracks or splinters.
    • Electric Shock Risk: Damaged power cords are dangerous. Keep the power cord away from hot parts, heat sources, sharp points, edges, and avoid kinking, crushing, or modifying it. Incorrect installation is dangerous; connect only to a properly installed earthed socket according to rating plate specifications. The protective conductor system must be properly installed.
    • Suffocation Risk: Keep packaging material and small parts away from children.
    • Explosion Risk: Liquids and other food in tightly sealed containers can explode. Never cook eggs in their shell or heat hard-boiled eggs. Prick egg yolks before microwaving. Prick the peel or skin of foods like apples, tomatoes, potatoes, and sausages before heating. Never heat baby food in closed containers; remove lids/teats, stir or shake well after heating, and check temperature before serving to a child. Airtight packaging may burst; follow packaging instructions.
    • Scalding Risk (Delayed Boiling): When heating liquids, delayed boiling can occur. Always place a spoon in the container to prevent sudden boiling over and splattering.
  • Cookware: Use only microwave-safe cookware. Metal containers or cookware with metal edging should not be used during microwave-only operation as they can cause sparks and damage the appliance. Metal cutlery (e.g., a spoon in a glass) can be used when heating liquids to prevent delayed boiling, but must be kept at least 2 cm from the cooking compartment walls and the inside of the door.
  • Cookware Test: To test if cookware is microwave-safe, place the empty cookware in the compartment, set the appliance to maximum microwave power for 30 seconds to 1 minute, and start. If the cookware is cold or warm, it is suitable. If it becomes hot or sparks are created, it is not suitable. This is the only time the appliance should be operated without food inside.
  • Cooling Fan: The cooling fan switches on and off as required, even if the oven has been switched off.
  • Condensation: Condensation may occur during cooking and is normal; wipe it away after cooking.
  • First Use: Before first use, ensure no packaging remains, clean smooth surfaces with a damp cloth, and wipe the empty cooking compartment with hot soapy water to eliminate new-appliance smell. Clean accessories with soapy water.
  • Turntable: The appliance must only be used when the turntable is fitted.
  • Cooking Process: Monitor the cooking process. Set a shorter cooking time first and increase if necessary. If the door is opened during operation, the appliance pauses and resumes when the door is closed.
  • Defrosting and Heating Tips: The manual provides tables with recommended microwave power settings and cooking times for various foods (e.g., minced meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, butter, bread, cakes, beverages). It advises turning or stirring food, covering food, and allowing defrosted/heated food to stand for a few minutes to even out temperature. For larger quantities, double the cooking time.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the appliance regularly and remove food residue immediately to prevent dangerous situations and escaping microwave energy. Keep the cooking compartment, door, and door stop clean.
  • Cleaning Products: Use only suitable cleaning agents. Do not use steam or high-pressure cleaners. Avoid harsh, abrasive, or high-alcohol-content cleaning products, hard scouring pads, or cleaning sponges. Do not use special cleaners on a hot appliance. Use glass cleaners, glass scrapers, or stainless steel care products only where recommended. Wash new sponge cloths thoroughly before use.
  • Cleaning the Cooking Compartment: Clean with hot soapy water or a vinegar solution. For heavy soiling, use oven cleaner only when the compartment is cold. To eliminate odors, heat a cup of water with lemon juice for 1-2 minutes at maximum microwave power (with a spoon in the cup to prevent delayed boiling). Wipe with a soft cloth and leave the door open to dry.
  • Cleaning the Front: Do not use glass cleaner, metal scrapers, or glass scrapers. Remove limescale, grease, starch, and albumin stains immediately from stainless steel fronts to prevent corrosion. Use special stainless steel cleaning products for hot surfaces. Clean with hot soapy water and a dish cloth, then dry with a soft cloth.
  • Cleaning the Control Panel: Do not wipe with a wet cloth. Clean with a microfibre cloth or soft, damp cloth, then dry with a soft cloth.
  • Cleaning the Door Panels: Do not use a glass scraper. Clean with a soft dish cloth and glass cleaner, then dry with a soft cloth.
  • Cleaning Aid: For occasional cleaning, add a few drops of washing-up liquid to a cup of water (with a spoon), place it in the center of the compartment, set microwave power to 600 W for 3 minutes. After the time elapses, leave the door closed for 3 minutes, then wipe the compartment with a soft cloth and leave the door open to dry.
  • Microwave Feed: Never remove the cover of the microwave feed in the cooking compartment, as it will be damaged.
  • Transparent Film: Never remove the transparent film on the inside of the door, as it damages the appliance door.
  • Turntable Drive: Monitor the cooking process to prevent liquid from penetrating and damaging the turntable drive. Never use the appliance without the turntable.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting section for common malfunctions, such as the appliance not working, food taking longer to heat, or the turntable grating. It advises checking the power supply, circuit breaker, door closure, and time selector. For persistent issues or damaged power cords, contact Customer Service. Improper repairs are dangerous and should only be carried out by trained specialist staff using genuine spare parts.

Disposal:

Packaging materials are environmentally compatible and recyclable. The appliance itself should be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, in accordance with European Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE). Information on current disposal methods is available from specialist dealers or local authorities.
