METAL DETECTOR
OWNER’S
MANUAL
If you do not
have prior experience
with a metal detector, we
strongly recommend that you:
1) Adjust the Sensitivity to a low
setting in the event of false signals.
Always begin use at a reduced sensitivity
level; increase to full sensitivity after you
have become familiar with the detector.
2) Do not use indoors. This detector is for outdoor
use only. Many household appliances emit
electromagnetic energy, which can interfere with the detector. If
conducting an indoor demonstration, turn the sensitivity down
and keep the searchcoil away from appliances such as
computers, televisions and microwave ovens. If your detector
beeps erratically, turn off appliances and lights.
Also keep the searchcoil away from objects containing metal,
such as floors and walls.
3) Use a 9-volt ALKALINE battery only.
Do not use Heavy Duty Batteries.

Battery Management and Indicators

Battery Requirements and Rechargeables

Requires a single 9-volt ALKALINE battery. Rechargeable batteries are recommended.

Quick-Start Demonstration Guide

Advanced Detecting Principles

Mitigating Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)

EMI from electronics causes false signals. Reduce sensitivity to lessen susceptibility.

Operating the Metal Detector

Powering Up and Initial State

Detector starts with Discrimination active, requires motion, 70% sensitivity, all targets illuminated.

Understanding Control Panel Layout

Overview of controls: -, menu, + buttons for adjusting settings and navigating menus.

Navigating Menu Selections

Discrimination (DISC) Settings

Increase/decrease Discrimination level to eliminate target categories sequentially from left to right.

Notching (NOTCH) Target Categories

Selectively include or exclude target categories by moving the notched category across the display.

Key Operational Settings Explained

Adjusting Detector Sensitivity

Adjust sensitivity (1-5 bars). Reduce sensitivity if erratic beeps occur due to EMI.

Target Identification Guide

Audible and Visual Target Cues

Targets identified by different pitch tones and illuminated icons on the display.

Audio Tone Classification System

Tones classify targets: LOW TONE (ferrous), MEDIUM TONE (pull-tabs, nickels), HIGH TONE (coins, brass).

Interpreting Display Readings

Understanding Probable Target ID

Display shows probable identification and depth. Consistent readings indicate a target; inconsistent may be trash.

In-Field Metal Detecting Techniques

Precise Target Pinpointing Methods

Accurately locate buried targets by 'X-ing' the area and noting beep locations.

Optimal Coil Movement for Searching

Keep coil level, one inch from ground; avoid pendulum swing. Overlap sweeps.

Metal Detector Troubleshooting

Erratic Detector Behavior Solutions

Causes: Indoors, power lines, proximity. Solutions: Outdoor use, move away, keep detectors apart.
