Friction
Clutch
This is fitted to the tone
arm motor to
pre-
vent damage when
the
motor is started and
the tone arm is locked
in its rest.
Gleaning
The
chassis can be
cleaned by using a
small
dusting brush. The lid
can
be wiped with
a
damp
cloth. When cleaning,
ensure that the
tone
arm
is firmly
located
in its holder
(16).
When
playing
old
records,
it can happen
thai, especrally when
no disc
cleaner
is
used, dust
particles
stick to the
stylus.
These must be removed
as they
have
a
negative
effect on sound
quality.
This is
best done with a fine
point
brush, and
rn
severe cases with
a little
cleaning fluid.
The
platter
should only
be cleaned with an
anti-static
substance
which leaves no resi-
due
on the
platter.
Changing
the
Stylus
and Gartridge
Changing the
Stylus
The
diamond becomes
ground
down
and
looses its
predetermined
shape. This can
lead
to
groove
damage
and will
shorten disc
life. According to the
condition of the
records
stylus life varies
from
500 to
1000
hours.
To change the
stylus
the head
shell
should be removed
from
the tone arm by
loosening screw and
pulling
the shell
gently
forward. The stylus
carrier can
now be
removed
from the
cartridge by
pulling
it for-
ward
out of the cartridge.
The new stylus is
mounted
by
reversing
this
procedure.
Changing the
Complete
Cartridge
First remove
the head
shell as described
above. Then remove
the
cartridge
from
the
shell by loosening
the two
screws.
After
mounting
of
the new
cartridge
in
the shell
the
screws should
only be
lightly
tightened.
The head
shell of the
cartrrdge should now
be mounted on the
tone arm and locked
with the screw. After
the
platter
has
been
removed
a
mark will
be seen on the cabi-
net. When the tone
arm
is
swung across to
this
mark, the stylus
must be exactly over
the
mark.
When the
cartridge is correctly
positioned
and the
two screws are in the
same
position
in the
guide
holes, then they
should be
tightened.
Further, the tracking
force
should be
reset.
Proceed then as described
under
"Assem-
bly".

Technical
Points
Skating Compensation
When
a
record is
played,
a force arises
which
pulls
the tone
arm to the
centre of
the
t
L
record. This is
called skating
force
and
is
caused by the
tone arm
bearing centre
and
the set down
point
on the
record not
being
an
exact tangent to the
record
groove.
The
direction
of
the
skating force
causes
an
in-
creased stylus
pressure
on
the inner
flank of
the
groove
and therefore
causes tracking
distortion
and accelerated
wear,
especially
of stereo
records.
In order
to
counteract this
negatrve
factor, the skating
compensation
creates force in the
opposite
direction. As
the magnitude
of this force
is dependent
on
frictional
conditions between
the record
groove
and the
stylus. various
compensa-
tion forces have to be
set
according to the
stylus shape, tracking force
and cleaning
process (attached
wet
or dry cleaner)
applied.
Subject to change without
notice.
