  If your Briggs & Stratton Portable Generator engine won't start, runs rough, or shuts down, there are several potential causes. Ensure the engine switch is in the ON (I) position. Check the oil level and fill the crankcase to the proper level, or place the generator on a level surface. Inspect the air cleaner for dirt and clean or replace it as needed. Make sure the fuel tank is full. Verify the spark plug wire is connected to the spark plug. If the engine is flooded with fuel, wait 5 minutes and try re-cranking.
