FLUSHING THE COOLING SYSTEM

Risk of Burns!
Never open the radiator cap when the cooling system is hot. For safety’s sake, cover
cap with a rag and open slowly. Sudden opening of the cap could provoke the escape
of boiling coolant and result in scalding.
Instruction To flush the coolant the following steps are necessary:

Open the radiator cap on the expansion tank.
2 Open the lowest located coolant hose (either at water pump or radiator).

Flush the system from the open expansion tank down to the open coolant
hose using pure (alternative is distilled) water.
NOTE
It is recommended to use a pump for flushing of the cooling system
with water under pressure.
4 Let residual water drain and reconnect the lowest located coolant hose.

Refill newly mixed coolant into the expansion tank (highest point of the cool-
ing system).
See Chapter 12-10-00 section Coolant check/replenish.
NOTICE
If water-free coolant is used, the cooling system must be flushed and refilled with
conventional coolant.

6 Fit radiator cap.

Start engine and warm up.
NOTE
Run the engine briefly and replenish with clean coolant as required.
