Overview

The EcoNet Controls EVC300 Bulldog Controller is a smart water shutoff system designed to protect your home from water damage by detecting leaks and automatically shutting off the main water supply. This QuickStart Guide provides essential information on the controller's functions, LED indicators, device pairing, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The EVC300 Bulldog Controller is the central unit of the EcoNet leak detection system. It connects to a Bulldog Motorized Valve (not included in this guide but shown in illustrations) which physically opens and closes your main water shutoff valve. The controller communicates wirelessly with leak sensors, emergency stop buttons, and remote buttons to monitor for leaks and allow for manual control of the valve. When a leak is detected by a paired sensor, the controller automatically triggers the Bulldog Motor to close the water valve, preventing further water damage.

Important Technical Specifications (Inferred from the guide):

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi for smart home integration and remote control (requires EVC300 Wi-Fi Connectivity Guide for setup). Wireless communication with leak sensors and remote buttons.
  • Power: Not explicitly stated, but the controller is shown as a wall-mounted unit, implying a power adapter.
  • Leak Sensor Battery: Leak sensors use Type A23 12 Volt batteries.
  • Operating Environment: Designed for indoor use to monitor water leaks.

Usage Features:

The controller features several buttons and LED indicators for easy operation and status monitoring:

  • Basic Controller Functions:

    • OPEN/CLOSE Button: Press to open or close the Bulldog Motorized Valve.
    • ALARM RESET Button: Press to reset a leak alarm. This is crucial as the water shutoff valve cannot be opened until the leak alarm is reset.
    • PAIR SENSORS Button: Press to initiate pairing with leak sensors, emergency stop buttons, and remote buttons.
    • Wi-Fi HOLD TO CONNECT: This area, when held, is used to connect the controller to Wi-Fi.
  • Controller LEDs (Status Indicators):

    • LED above ALARM RESET (Current System State):
      • (Green): System is armed and ready, valve is open.
      • (Red): System is armed and ready, valve is closed.
      • (Green, Red): Valve Motor is not fully closed, not fully open, or the Valve Motor control wire is not connected.
      • (Green, Blue, Red): A leak has been detected, and the water has been shut off.
    • LED next to OPEN/CLOSE (Current Valve Controller Command):
      • (Red): Valve is set to open.
      • (No Colour): Valve is set to closed.
    • LED above PAIR SENSORS (Wi-Fi Status):
      • (Solid Blue): Bulldog Controller is connected to Wi-Fi.
      • (Blinking Blue): Bulldog Motor is closed.
  • Device Pairing:

    • Leak Sensors:
      1. Press the PAIR SENSORS button on the controller.
      2. Place a leak sensor on a wet paper towel and allow it to go through 2-3 beep cycles.
      3. Once paired, the controller will enter an alert state.
      4. Clear the leak alert by pressing the ALARM RESET button.
      5. Click the OPEN/CLOSE button to re-open the water shutoff valve.
    • Optional Remote Button or Emergency Stop Button:
      1. Press the PAIR SENSORS button on the controller.
      2. Press and hold the Remote button.
    • Unpairing Devices: All paired devices can be removed by pressing and holding the PAIR SENSORS button for 5 seconds until the red LED blinks.
    • Pre-paired Devices: All devices included with a Starter Kit are already paired with the Bulldog Controller.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is recommended every 6 months to ensure the device is armed and in working order.

  • Check Leak Sensor Battery:
    1. Set your leak sensor on a wet paper towel to trigger a leak alert.
    2. Listen for the number of beeps from the sensor:
      • (2 beeps): Battery is charged.
      • (3 beeps): Battery is low and needs to be replaced.
      • (No beeps): Battery is dead, or the leak sensor is not properly being triggered.
      • (Beeps but no leak alert): Leak Sensor is unpaired or non-functional (refer to pairing instructions).
  • Replace Leak Sensor Battery:
    1. Twist the leak sensor lid counterclockwise and lift.
    2. Replace the battery with a Type A23 12 Volt battery only.
    3. Line up alignment marks, then close and lock the lid with a clockwise twist.
  • Check Bulldog Functionality:
    1. Close your Bulldog water valve using the OPEN/CLOSE button on the controller.
    2. Turn on the water at the highest point in the building and observe water flow after 10 seconds.
      • (Water stops): Bulldog fully closes the valve.
      • (Water continues running): Remove Bulldog from the water shutoff and follow the Bulldog Mounting Instructions card included with the box.
    3. Open your Bulldog water valve using the OPEN/CLOSE button.
