Installing Converter Modules
The CPS2500D converter shelf uses plug-in modules to convert the ±190 VDC input power
to -48 VDC output power to supply the equipment. The CPS2500D shelf supports up to 10
converter modules, each terminating up to two power pairs. The number of converter
modules required for operation varies based on several site factors, including the length and
wire gauge of the copper plant providing the power pairs as well as the equipment load.
Note: Calix provides a planning tool to calculate remote powering requirements. The tool is
available on the Calix Resource Center.
The retrofit kit does not include converter modules (ordered and packaged separately). Install
converter modules as described below.
To install the converter modules
1. Unpack the converter module.
2. Insert the converter module into the first (left) slot in the CPS2500D shelf, aligning its
right-side plastic edge into the notch at the top right edge of the slot.
Note: Populate slots from left to right.
3. Slide the converter module into the slot. Push firmly on the module to seat it.
4. Push the face plate in until the latch on the top catches.
5. Repeat Steps 1–4 to install additional converter modules.
Note: The converter modules are factory-programmed for safe power up and operation.
Refer to the CPS2500D +/-190V Downstream System product manual for more information.
